Rare Langbiang yellow camellia discovered in Phuoc Binh National Park

Phuoc Binh National Park Management Board said that officials from the Park's Department of Science and Nature Conservation have just discovered a rare species of Langbiang yellow Camellia appearing in the wild in the forest area of ​​Phuoc Binh National Park (Bac Ai). This is an important discovery, opening up many research and conservation opportunities for the area's endemic ecosystem.

Langbiang yellow camellia, scientifically known as Camellia langbianensis, is a plant species belonging to the Tea family (Theaceae). This is a small tree or evergreen shrub, 3-5m high, classified as critically endangered according to the standards of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and is also listed in the Vietnam Red Book. This species has a narrow distribution range, only appearing in some areas with special ecological conditions. Vietnam is identified as one of two countries in the world (along with China) that records the presence of yellow camellia in the natural environment. In which, Langbiang yellow camellia is endemic to Lam Dong province.

According to the Phuoc Binh National Park Management Board, the compounds of Camellia yellow flower tea have the ability to inhibit the growth of tumors; help reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. In addition, this tea also has the ability to reduce symptoms of atherosclerosis due to fatty blood, regulate blood pressure and treat cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, tumors... In addition to its medicinal values, Langbiang yellow flower tea also has the potential to be applied in the cosmetic field thanks to its natural ingredients that are beneficial for the skin, which are potential ingredients for use in the cosmetics industry, especially skin and hair care products and have high value in landscape decoration and as rare ornamental plants.

Currently, the Phuoc Binh National Park Management Board is conducting in-depth research on the ecological and genetic characteristics of Langbiang yellow Camellia; at the same time, implementing measures to conserve and propagate, protect the habitat and raise public awareness in the work of protecting forests and natural ecosystems.
