The press plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion, disseminating and reinforcing positive information in the daily news flow, while also promptly reflecting the legitimate aspirations, desires, and suggestions of the people, contributing to strengthening the close relationship between the Party and the people and the national unity.
This was the assertion made by Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, and President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, at the national scientific conference "The Party's press system and its role in protecting the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints."
The workshop was organized by the Academy of Journalism and Communication in collaboration with Nhan Dan Newspaper on the afternoon of September 16th in Hanoi .
According to Mr. Le Quoc Minh, since the issuance of Resolution No. 35-NQ/TƯ of the XII Politburo on "Strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints in the new situation," press agencies within the Party's press system have participated very actively and effectively, through various rich forms and creative approaches.
However, in practice, Party newspapers face numerous difficulties and challenges in fulfilling their nhiệm vụ of protecting the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints. Especially as Vietnam integrates more deeply into the international community, coupled with the explosion of information on the Internet and social media, hostile forces and erroneous viewpoints exploit cyberspace to spread propaganda aimed at undermining the Party's ideological foundation.
Sharing the same view, Professor-Doctor Le Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy, believes that the task of protecting the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints in the new situation continues to face many difficulties and challenges due to the complex developments in the region and the world. This is placing increasingly complex and demanding requirements on agencies within the Party's press system in implementing Resolution No. 35-NQ/TƯ of the Politburo.
"Continuing to improve the quality and further enhance the leading role of the Party's press system in protecting the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints is essential," Mr. Le Van Loi emphasized.
At the seminar, Ms. Vu Thi Huong Thuy, Member of the Party Committee Executive Board and Chief of the Party Committee Office of the Vietnam News Agency, shared about the unit's efforts in protecting the Party's ideological foundation and combating the false narratives of hostile forces.
Accordingly, in the first six months of 2024 alone, the Vietnam News Agency processed 115 internal reports at appropriate levels on sensitive and urgent issues related to security, national defense, diplomacy, and the economy both domestically and internationally, serving the guidance and management work of the Party and State leaders. The information and reports focused on gathering and synthesizing external public opinion on the situation in Vietnam; the sessions of the Central Committee, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, and the extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly; high-level personnel issues; and assessments of the impact of personnel changes on Vietnam's foreign policy, investment environment, and anti-corruption efforts.
In addition, many articles published by the Vietnam News Agency have brought together reputable scientists, theorists, and practitioners to participate in seminars and workshops, and to write articles refuting false and hostile viewpoints.
According to Ms. Thuy, in the coming period, the press in general and the Vietnam News Agency in particular need to continue fulfilling five major missions: To better fulfill the task of guiding the Party's ideology; To accompany the country, for the national interest; To fully understand and effectively perform the function of social critique, providing accurate and relevant feedback; To play a pioneering role in spreading beauty and positivity, limiting ugliness and negativity, and combating erroneous viewpoints; To accompany and be more at the forefront in disseminating the country's foreign policy views.
"By achieving such missions, journalistic works will truly be the voice of the Party, the State, and socio-political organizations, and a reliable forum for the people," Ms. Thuy stated.
