Promoting the role of youth in preserving Vietnamese national culture

On the afternoon of June 12, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union held a conference to collect comments on the draft project "Youth participating in preserving and promoting Vietnamese national cultural identity for the period 2024-2029".

Speaking at the program, Secretary of the Central Youth Union, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union Nguyen Tuong Lam said: The Resolution of the Congress of the Vietnam Youth Union, with the high consensus of nearly 1,000 outstanding youth delegates, from many ethnic and religious groups across the country, has set out one of the key tasks of the term as building a Project on youth participation in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation...

“Through the conference, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union will receive positive contributions, sharing and suggestions from the experiences and expertise of leaders of cultural management units and agencies, experts, artists, and influential individuals in the field of popular culture; the most profound knowledge, stories, lessons, and sharing, to then incorporate into the project content,” said Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam.

At the conference, delegates gave ideas on promoting the role of youth in preserving and promoting national culture; sharing appropriate models, methods and tools to attract effective participation of youth; the role of science and technology , social networks and modern communications in preserving and spreading cultural values; coordination mechanisms between Youth Union - Association organizations, other patriotic youth organizations with sectors, localities and communities in implementing the Project...

Commenting on the Project, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Ly, Chairman of the Vietnam Folklore Arts Association, said that young people need to have knowledge and awareness when participating in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation. Each citizen, especially young people, needs to understand their own national culture, from which they can develop creativity.

In addition, it is necessary to promote the role of youth in restoring traditional culture and traditional cuisine. Based on the project, each province and city should register to restore traditional occupations; encourage and motivate youth to start businesses and develop the economy from traditional culture in the locality, thereby spreading, preserving and developing national culture.

Vice Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Ngo Thi Thanh Mai said that the number of Vietnamese youths living abroad is about 2 million. This is not a small number, while young people living abroad have limited opportunities to access Vietnamese culture, history, traditions, and national identity. Therefore, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese recommends that there must be specific policies and methods for young Vietnamese people living, studying, and working far from home.

According to Miss World Vietnam 2019 Luong Thuy Linh, young people today live in a fast-moving world, with a digital lifestyle, digital language and very specific visual aesthetics. Therefore, preserving culture needs to be renewed in the way it is communicated; enhancing the inspirational factor and becoming closer to young people.
