Developing community tourism in Bich Dam village in the middle of Nha Trang bay

On March 5, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, Vice Chairman of Nha Trang City People's Committee, said that the City People's Committee has approved the Project to develop green and sustainable community tourism in Bich Dam Residential Group, Vinh Nguyen Ward, Nha Trang City.

According to the approved Project, Bich Dam community tourism space is based on the entire current area of Bich Dam Residential Group and surrounding areas, including residential areas, natural landscapes, historical and cultural relics, existing and planned fishing and aquaculture areas, and waters surrounding Bich Dam and Hon Mun Island (except for the strictly protected area of Nha Trang Bay).

The project aims to have Bich Dam recognized by Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee as a community tourism destination by 2025; by 2030, Bich Dam will have 8-10 community tourism businesses; at least 80% of people participating in community tourism services will be trained in tourism management; welcome 45,000 tourists/year (of which 40% are international visitors); create regular jobs for 200 direct workers and 50 indirect workers...

Bich Dam Communal House is currently a provincial historical and cultural relic.

The project also offers solutions to develop community tourism in Bich Dam: establishing the Bich Dam Community Tourism Management Board, perfecting management and operation regulations; training and coaching human resources for community tourism; enhancing capacity, facilities and means for the Management Board; investing and upgrading technical infrastructure to serve people's lives and develop tourism.

At the same time, invest in and embellish historical and cultural relics, build landscape highlights, restore cultural activities, festivals, and folk games to serve tourism; upgrade and renovate residential areas, public works, and social infrastructure; support investment in upgrading and developing service infrastructure and tourism products associated with people's livelihoods; develop plans to organize package tours, organize communications, promote, build brands, and connect tours to Bich Dam...

Along with the approval of the Project, Nha Trang City People's Committee also decided to establish the Bich Dam Community Tourism Management Board with 9 members; Mr. Truong Dinh Vinh, Chairman of Vinh Nguyen Ward Farmers' Association, holds the position of Head of the Board.

Bich Dam residential group (on Hon Tre island), Vinh Nguyen ward has a natural area of 250.9 hectares, 210 households with 867 people. Recognizing the historical, cultural and architectural values of the relic in Bich Dam village, on November 20, 2012, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2888/QD-UBND on ranking Bich Dam communal house as a provincial historical and cultural relic. Currently, the communal house has seriously degraded and is being directed by Nha Trang City People's Committee to carry out investment procedures for restoration and embellishment.

In front of the communal house yard, there is a hundred-year-old banyan tree and an ancient kapok tree with a wide canopy over 100 years old. The banyan tree in front of Bich Dam communal house village was recognized as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment in June 2024.

Based on the consensus of Bich Dam community through opinion survey, Nha Trang City orients the development of community tourism in a green and sustainable direction in Bich Dam Residential Group to contribute to creating new tourism products, creating sustainable livelihoods for local people, contributing to the conservation and development of marine biodiversity, maintaining security and order, environmental sanitation; protecting the sovereignty of sea and islands... of Nha Trang City.
