Developing OCOP products in Ninh Phuoc commune: Need to soon invest in infrastructure of production areas

(QNO) - Ninh Phuoc Commune (Que Son) is gradually improving the quality of OCOP products, from focusing on expanding raw material areas to investing in infrastructure for production areas, finding markets, and increasing product value associated with new rural construction.

Expanding raw material areas

For many years, Ms. Hoang Thi Tuong’s family (Phu Gia 1 village, Ninh Phuoc) has been attached to the traditional local craft of sugar making. However, only when Phu Gia sugar products are recognized as 3-star OCOP in 2023 will the development opportunities truly open up. To meet production needs and expand scale, having a stable source of sugarcane materials locally becomes a key factor.

Ms. Tuong said that previously, sugarcane was mainly purchased from other places, transportation costs were high, and sugarcane quality was uneven, greatly affecting the quality of finished sugar. Realizing this difficulty, the People's Committee of Ninh Phuoc commune coordinated with local households to encourage the restoration of local sugarcane growing areas, gradually regenerating raw material areas, supporting people with planting and care techniques, thereby helping Ms. Tuong maintain stable production, proactively source raw materials, reduce costs and improve product quality.

As for OCOP products such as Phuc Vuong Loi agarwood pen of Mr. Ho Nhu Truyen (Ninh Khanh village), the initiative in raw materials is even more focused. Currently, Mr. Truyen has boldly linked with 6 households in the area to form a chain of agarwood production links, creating a stable raw material area with about 1,000 Aquilaria trees 10 years old or older.

Without the support and encouragement of the commune government, it is very difficult for people to boldly invest in large-scale planting of do trees, because this is a perennial tree, the initial investment capital is high and the harvest time is long.

According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan - Acting Chairman of Ninh Phuoc Commune People's Committee, the locality has identified the expansion of raw material areas as one of the key solutions to develop OCOP products linked to the market. Building a stable raw material area will create a foundation for long-term product development, with high competitiveness, linked to the goals of advanced new rural development.

Removing infrastructure bottlenecks

In addition to difficulties in raw materials, many OCOP entities in Ninh Phuoc also face major challenges in production infrastructure, especially the electrical system serving the operation of machinery and small and medium-sized production lines.

Ms. Tran Thi Kim Lien - owner of Dai Binh lotus tea facility said that because the residential area near the residential area is often flooded, her family had to build a production workshop at her parents' house in a higher area, but this area does not have 3-phase electricity.

Currently, I have 3 tea roasting machines operating normally. I have just invested in a new technology dryer worth nearly 250 million VND, but due to lack of 3-phase electricity, the machine cannot operate, which is a waste of investment resources.

Not only Dai Binh lotus tea facility, Phuc Vuong Loi agarwood processing facility of Mr. Ho Nhu Truyen is also "thirsty" for 3-phase power source to meet production needs. Currently, the workshop is using 3 lathes, 2 cutting machines, 5 drilling and polishing machines and will soon invest in an automatic CNC machine for sophisticated engraving, requiring a stable 3-phase power source to operate.

Recently, Ninh Phuoc Commune People's Committee has proactively advised, proposed, and coordinated with the electricity sector to implement the project of bringing 3-phase electricity to production areas. From the budget of the new rural program, the commune has invested in expanding the power grid with 3 lines about 1.5km long, bringing 3-phase electricity to production areas, with a total cost of nearly 400 million VND.

"However, due to the large area, some production areas are far from residential areas, and the power source is weak.
