Efforts to green production

“Greening” production is a global trend that businesses must implement to achieve sustainable development goals. Economic transformation towards a circular economy, green economy, and low-carbon economy is an inevitable trend.

Accordingly, enterprises have continuously innovated, promoted in-depth model transformation, associated with sustainable development, and are environmentally friendly. Typically, Tetra Pak Binh Duong 's beverage carton factory has achieved BRCGS AA+ certification for quality management from the British Retail Consortium, and is the first factory to achieve this rating in Vietnam. By applying LEED standards, the factory has saved 2 million liters of water, reused and recycled 90% of waste, and reduced 4,000 tons of CO2 emissions into the environment each year. The company aims to completely eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from all operations by 2030.

Recently, the Lego Group has officially put into operation a high-tech factory in Binh Duong. This is also the group's first factory to be developed in a green, sustainable, and environmentally friendly direction with the goal of not generating carbon emissions. According to the plan, after being put into stable operation, the main source of electricity used for production will be renewable energy provided from the solar farm right next to the factory. This will be a new production model for other enterprises to follow in order to effectively implement the transformation of production towards green, ecological, and sustainable direction that Binh Duong province in particular and Vietnam in general are striving to implement.

Many enterprises in Binh Duong are also aiming for environmental responsibility by implementing the goal of converting to green energy, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions in production activities, aiming for sustainable production based on strong application of science and technology, innovation and increasing labor productivity.

According to Mr. Masami Okumura, General Director of Toyotsu Safety & Automotive Components Vietnam Co., Ltd. (TSAV), at My Phuoc 3 Industrial Park, a company belonging to Toyota Group, is currently producing car seat accessories, thus consuming a lot of electricity and diesel. To proactively use clean energy, in addition to solutions to save electricity and water in the production process as well as installing a quality management system for food safety and hygiene and a waste treatment system as well as aiming for green and clean production criteria. The company has installed additional boilers to reduce the amount of diesel by 15%, and installed rooftop solar power at the factory.

Developing “green industry” to attract sustainable investment

To increase competitiveness, Binh Duong is focusing on attracting investment in planned industrial parks. According to the provincial leaders, the development goal by 2030 is to build and develop Binh Duong, together with other provinces and cities in the Southeast region, into an important growth engine of the country; to become one of the dynamic and comprehensive development centers; a modern industrial and service center; and a sustainable urban area following a green growth model, adapting to climate change.

Currently, the province’s existing and new industrial parks are having solutions to improve their competitiveness and attractiveness to take advantage of increasing demand. Recently, the province has started construction of Cay Truong Industrial Park and Bau Bang Industrial Park expansion in Bau Bang district. These two industrial parks are also planned to harmoniously integrate production and ecological protection, attracting high-quality enterprises, especially green and smart enterprises.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuan, General Director of Becamex IDC Corporation, said that the trend of developing industrial parks towards green and sustainable factors is attracting many domestic and foreign investors. Therefore, the construction and development of high-tech industrial parks, ecological industrial parks, etc. to meet the requirements of green economic development globally is very necessary. Smart - ecological industrial parks are considered one of the important and inevitable new ecosystems of the era to supplement the existing Industrial - Urban - Service model.

To continue to develop the province's industry more and more sustainably, the province's industrial parks are also proactively taking all measures to attract quality and effective investment capital. The province is also preparing well the conditions such as clean land fund, proactively planning industrial parks, technology ecosystems, implementing human resource training, building social housing, housing for workers, providing adequate and timely labor resources for enterprises investing in the province.

Mr. Bui Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that the construction of new generation industrial parks is considered a solution that not only overcomes environmental limitations and shortcomings, reduces resource waste, but also helps Binh Duong continue to orient itself in attracting investment as well as effectively supporting and monitoring business activities, helping businesses develop faster, greener and more sustainably.

Currently, many enterprises in Binh Duong have been taking “green” production as a strategy and competitive advantage. The province is focusing on developing green industry and high value-added industry. Specifically, it has proposed 2 development phases. Phase 1 is industry - urban - service - smart - sustainable; Phase 2 is industry - urban - international service - innovation - science and technology. This is also preparing the ecosystem for the green FDI wave to welcome green investors to the province for sustainable development.
