According to information, the patient was previously given emergency treatment at a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. The patient is out of danger but still faces serious consequences.
Military Hospital 175 received a patient with a deformed chin, neck and mouth due to scarring, making it difficult for the patient to eat and speak, and his neck was folded and stuck to the chest wall. In addition, the contracted scar also caused difficulty in movement in both hands and both armpits.
Doctor Than Van Hung - Deputy Head of the Department of Burns - Plastic Surgery said: "The patient's condition when admitted to the hospital had severe contracture scars in the neck, 2 armpits and deformed hands, needing to be divided into multiple surgeries to gradually resolve these problems. The patient needs to use a special technique - flap transfer microsurgery technique".
According to Dr. Hung, flap microsurgery is a high-level technique that requires meticulousness and absolute precision. This technique involves transferring a piece of skin along with its nourishing blood vessels from one area of the body to another. The blood vessels are connected under a surgical microscope, helping to restore circulation to severely damaged areas. With the support of a team of experts from People's Hospital 115, doctors from the Department of Burns - Microsurgery and Reconstructive Surgery performed the 11-hour surgery.
During the surgery, the surgeons faced many challenges, from finding blood vessels in the neck hidden deep under the thick layer of scar tissue to removing a large skin flap from the anterior outer thigh. Finally, after many hours of hard work by the surgical team, the skin flap with three blood vessel pedicles was successfully connected to three recipient blood vessel pedicles in the neck.
The result of this surgery has brought a great change to the patient YGB. The skin flap is very good and soft, the patient can tilt his neck to the maximum, open his mouth to eat and drink and communicate more easily. The function of the neck and mouth area has been restored, bringing a better quality of life to the patient after a long time living with a thick layer of scar tissue on the neck area.
Dr. Than Van Hung - Deputy Head of the Department of Burns - Microsurgery shared: "The success of this surgery is a living proof of the importance of microsurgery flap transfer in the treatment of severe burns. With constant efforts, professional knowledge and enthusiasm, we hope to be able to perform miracles, bringing hope and new chances of life to patients with severe sequelae."
