On May 14, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province Tran Van Lau said that the Ministry of Construction has just issued a Decision on "Approving the detailed planning for the development of land and water areas of Soc Trang seaports in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050". According to the Decision, the planning of Soc Trang seaport includes the following wharf areas: Ke Sach, Dai Ngai, Tran De and buoy wharves, anchorage areas, transshipment areas, storm shelters.

The target by 2030 is for cargo to reach 30.7 million tons to 41.2 million tons (of which container cargo is from 0.97 million TEU to 1.36 million TEU); passengers are from 522.1 thousand to 566.3 thousand. Regarding infrastructure, there are a total of 6 ports including 16 to 18 wharves with a total length of 2,693 m to 3,493 m (excluding other ports). Vision to 2050, for cargo, the average growth rate is from 5.5%/year to 6.1%/year; passengers are from 1.1%/year to 1.25%/year. Regarding infrastructure, continue to develop new ports to meet the demand for cargo, including forming a gateway port for the Mekong Delta region.
The total land use demand according to the planning until 2030 is about 1,331 hectares (not including areas for developing industrial parks, logistics... associated with the port). The total water surface demand according to the planning until 2030 is about 148,486 hectares (including other water areas within the management scope without maritime works). The capital demand for investment in the Soc Trang seaport system until 2030 is about 61,513 billion VND, including investment capital for public maritime infrastructure of about 19,607 billion VND and investment capital demand for ports of about 41,906 billion VND (including only ports providing cargo handling services).
The Decision also outlines priority investment projects, including: Public maritime infrastructure, investment in the construction of public infrastructure for offshore ports at Tran De estuary (channels, breakwaters, sea-crossing bridges) in sync with the scale and investment roadmap of ports, 5 investment roadmaps depending on resources and needs; investment in infrastructure serving maritime safety assurance such as: storm shelters, coastal information stations, maritime traffic monitoring and coordination systems (VTS); investment in the construction of public service ports, facilities serving specialized state management tasks, etc.
