Mr. Kim Sang-sik SHAPED THE FRAMEWORK

The Vietnamese team had 3 relatively successful friendly matches in Korea, all winning against Ulsan Citizen Club (K-League 3), Daegu FC, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (K-League 1). A series of expected factors such as Tien Linh, Tuan Hai, Quang Hai, Thanh Binh, Duy Manh all spoke up with goals. That was a very good sign because the main strikers all "opened fire" against strong opponents from Korea (Quang Hai alone had 2 goals). In addition, the central defenders also left their mark in the attacks such as Viet Anh assisting Tien Linh, Thanh Chung hitting the crossbar and Duy Manh scoring a goal. More importantly, the defense has regained the necessary solidity. The Vietnamese team only conceded 1 goal from the 11m mark in the last match against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC.

It seems that coach Kim Sang-sik has shaped the optimal framework to help the Vietnamese team operate quite smoothly. It should also be added that because the K-League is still taking place quite tensely and fiercely, the opponents of Mr. Kim and his team cannot field their strongest lineup. However, the level of the players playing in K-League 1 for Daegu FC and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors is still at a very high level. Therefore, the fact that the Vietnamese team has 3 wins, scored 7 goals and only conceded 1 goal is noteworthy because it has been a long time since we had 3 consecutive wins. The Vietnamese team has also shaped the basic framework with a reliable vertical axis, currently in high form, including goalkeeper Nguyen Filip, central defenders Thanh Binh, Viet Anh, Duy Manh; above are Hoang Duc, Tien Linh, Tuan Hai. In important positions such as central midfielder, the competition is still very high between Quang Hai, Ngoc Tan, Thanh Long or in the central defender position, Thanh Chung, Tien Dung, Tan Tai are also playing well, trying hard to be given a starting position by coach Kim.

In all three matches in Korea, coach Kim Sang-sik did not keep the same starting lineup but constantly changed it to test each individual for each position. In the attack, Tien Linh and Thanh Binh took turns playing as center forward while the two winger positions were rotated between many players such as Hai Long, Ngoc Quang, Van Duc, Van Truong, Vi Hao, Tuan Hai, Dinh Bac. There were even cases where Mr. Kim pulled in full-backs to test playing as center-backs such as Tan Tai and Xuan Manh. Or Ngoc Quang was moved from full-back to winger...

It can be seen that Mr. Kim did not hesitate to conduct experiments to find the optimal solution, overcoming the previous limitation of "attacking and defending" in the 2023 Asian Cup or the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Up to now, the results of the training sessions are proving the reality, it seems that the Vietnamese team is creating a certain balance, when the attack line scored regularly while the defense kept a clean sheet in 2 out of 3 matches in Korea. More importantly, the competition between positions did not create heavy pressure but helped the team have high motivation, when everyone tried their best to get into Mr. Kim's "green eyes".

On December 3, through the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), coach Kim Sang-sik announced the addition of 3 players from Nam Dinh Club, including left-back Van Vi, striker Van Toan and especially naturalized player Nguyen Xuan Son. Van Vi will help Mr. Kim have more quality options on the left wing, while Van Toan will bring mobility to the right wing, and Xuan Son will be a heavy artillery next to Tien Linh (he will be the highest player in the attack). This will help Mr. Kim make final adjustments to the Vietnam team, before flying to Laos on December 6.

Fierce competition is what coach Kim Sang-sik is aiming for, not only to balance attack and defense, but also to create a balance between new and old players, creating a team with full desire and talent to contribute to the Vietnamese team at the upcoming AFF Cup 2024.

To do that, we need to try our best starting from the opening match against the Laos team and try to win every match. "The players and I understand very well the love for football of the Vietnamese people. We will make sure to meet everyone's expectations with good results at the upcoming ASEAN Cup.
