(CPV) - The Ministry of National Defense has signed a decision to posthumously promote pilot Tran Ngoc Duy, who died while performing a combat training mission, to the officer rank ahead of schedule.

On the morning of February 1, information from the Air Defense - Air Force Service said that the Ministry of National Defense has decided to posthumously promote the officer rank ahead of schedule for pilot Tran Ngoc Duy, of Air Force Regiment 921, Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force Service, who died while performing a combat training flight mission.

According to the Decision of the Minister of National Defense, pilot Tran Ngoc Duy was posthumously promoted from Captain to Major.

Previously, at 12:09 on January 31, 2023, Su 22 aircraft, serial number 5873 of Air Force Regiment 921, Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force, piloted by Captain 3rd class Tran Ngoc Duy, took off on the first flight, training flight number 206. At 12:27, while landing, the aircraft had an accident, the pilot was ordered to parachute but tried to save the aircraft. However, the aircraft later crashed and the pilot died.

Immediately after the incident, the Ministry of National Defense directed the Air Defense - Air Force Service and relevant agencies and units to urgently overcome the consequences, investigate and clarify the cause of the accident; together with functional agencies and local Party committees, authorities, and organizations, visit, encourage the family and carry out policy work for comrade Tran Ngoc Duy and his family.

This morning, February 1, the funeral of Major Tran Ngoc Duy took place at Yen Bai General Hospital. The funeral began at 8am.

Major Tran Ngoc Duy was born in 1992, hometown in Vu Thu, Thai Binh province, residing in Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province.

Comrade Tran Ngoc Duy enlisted in September 2010, was trained as a military aircraft pilot at the Air Force Officer School and has held the following positions and missions: Pilot, Squadron 2, Regiment 937, Division 370, Air Defense - Air Force; Pilot, Deputy Squadron Leader of Squadron 1, Regiment 921, Division 371.

After that, he was Deputy Squadron Commander - Chief of Staff of Squadron 1, Regiment 921, Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force.

During his mission, Comrade Tran Ngoc Duy accumulated a total of 725 hours and 25 minutes of flight time. He was awarded the title of Emulation Fighter at the Base in 2020. He was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant in 2014, to the rank of Lieutenant in 2016, and to Senior Lieutenant in 2019.

He was promoted ahead of schedule in 2021 from the rank of Senior Lieutenant to Captain./.
