Foreign investors return to net selling after 3 sessions of strong disbursement |
After a 3.47 point (0.26%) increase towards the 1,320 - 1,340 point price range, the highest in March 2025, entering the trading session on May 16, the Vietnamese stock market traded cautiously and struggled after a series of previous strong increases. The clear differentiation caused the main index to fluctuate slightly around the reference range, reflecting investors' hesitation in the context of a lack of general driving force. Liquidity decreased somewhat compared to previous sessions, showing that cash flow is temporarily "standing outside" to observe and has not shown clear signs of returning. Although there were a few bright spots from individual stocks, the overall market level was still leaning towards red when most industry groups recorded adjustments. Selling pressure increased at the end of the morning session, causing the index to retreat.
In the afternoon session, trading was cautious and the VN-Index fluctuated close to the 1,300-point mark, with red continuing to dominate. The caution that pervaded the general market caused liquidity to decline compared to the previous session.
At the end of the trading session, VN-Index decreased by 11.81 points (-0.9%) to 1,301.39 points. HNX-Index decreased by 0.59 points (-0.27%) to 218.69 points. UPCoM-Index decreased by 0.04 points (-0.04%) to 95.5 points. Market liquidity decreased compared to the previous session. Total transaction value on HoSE reached VND20,756 billion, down 19.8%, of which, matched transactions were VND19,244 billion, down 21.3%. Transaction values on HNX and UPCoM were VND1,146 billion and VND563 billion, respectively.
Foreign investors returned to net selling over VND956 billion on the HoSE, of which, this capital flow sold the most VCB code with VND420 billion. FPT and VHM were net sold 228 billion VND and VND189 billion respectively. In the opposite direction, MWG was the strongest net bought with VND126 billion. HSG and TCH were both net bought over VND90 billion.
Large-cap stocks were sold off heavily. |
The number of stocks that decreased was dominant with 444 stocks while 332 stocks increased in price. The whole market recorded 49 stocks hitting the ceiling and 24 stocks hitting the floor. In the group of small and medium-cap stocks, some stocks such as PNJ, CMG, GMD, KDH, DGC... all decreased in price and also negatively impacted the general market.
On the other hand, the four rare stocks that increased in price in the VN30 group were VRE, PLX, SAB and VIC. Of which, VIC increased by 0.25%, VRE increased by 1.45%, PLX increased by 0.56% and SAB increased by 0.4%.
