This project is a film version of the novel "Red Rain" written by Colonel and writer Chu Lai. This novel won the A prize in the novel competition of the Vietnam Writers Association and the A prize of the Ministry of National Defense Award in 2016.

Director Dang Thai Huyen and advisor - People's Artist Nguyen Thanh Van
The film "Red Rain" will be directed by Dang Thai Huyen and is expected to be completed in 2025. The film script will bring impressive grand scenes, different from the stage play.
The film will recreate the heroic scenes of the war, including vehicles such as tanks and oxen, along with the headquarters of both sides. According to writer Chu Lai, the film set will be built on an area of 50 hectares in Quang Tri , with a film crew of more than 1,000 people.
A highlight of the film is the story of two mothers, symbolizing harmony and humanity after the war. The mother of the character Cuong, a young man from Hanoi, went to the old battlefield to find the place where her son was buried. Here, she met the mother of an officer of the ARVN, showing the sympathy and common pain of mothers who lost their children even though they stood on two different sides of the battle.
Writer Chu Lai said the film script will be different from the stage script, with the big scenes being the important highlights. He also believes in the People's Army Cinema's ability to recreate the war.
An actress auditions for Red Rain
The film "Red Rain" will also deeply depict the image of female heroes in the "blood and flower" era with the character Hong, a Quang Tri guerrilla, and Mrs. Lan, Cuong's mother, as symbols of sacrifice and resilience. Writer Chu Lai said the film will retain the important dialogue about the harmony between the two sides of the battle line, creating a strong message of peace and sympathy.
Currently, the film crew is casting in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, looking for suitable actors for the three main roles: Cuong, Quang and Hong. Female director Dang Thai Huyen, with extensive experience in war and post-war films, is expected to bring touching and realistic footage, especially when touching on the fate of women in the post-war story.
