Perspective of the Soul Organ after restoration
The Altar of the Souls was built in 1894 under the reign of King Thanh Thai, to worship the soldiers and people who died in the fall of the capital in 1885 (May 23, At Dau year). The Altar of the Souls is located in the Than Co military camp, an artillery unit of the Nguyen Dynasty; this is also the place where many soldiers of the royal court died in the May 23, At Dau incident.
Since 1975, the Am Hon altar has undergone many changes. For a long time, this land has been used for the wrong purpose, causing the relic to become deformed and no trace remains on the ground.
After clearing the site of this relic site, for many years the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has re-enacted the Soul Worship Ceremony on the occasion of the fall of the capital on the 23rd of the 5th lunar month. Local people also hold worship ceremonies and activities to commemorate the fallen compatriots.
