Sustainable forest management and protection associated with forest economic development in Nhu Xuan

Nhu Xuan Forest Protection Department cooperates with Thanh Lam Secondary School to propagate Forestry Law to students.

Head of the Forest Protection Department, Nhu Xuan Duong Hoang Hai, said: Identifying forests as a precious resource, with great value in terms of ecological environment, contributing significantly to socio -economic development, creating more jobs, and increasing income for people, in recent years, the work of forest protection and fire prevention and fighting has always received close attention and direction from local Party committees and authorities. The unit has advised the District Party Committee and the District People's Committee to effectively implement Conclusion No. 61-KL/TW of the 13th Party Central Committee Secretariat on continuing to implement Directive No. 13-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in forest management, protection and development (FPD&B). Regularly coordinate with relevant units to promote the dissemination of the Forestry Law. Well implement the regulations, programs, and coordination plans from the district to the commune in performing the tasks of forest protection and fire prevention and fighting with departments and branches in the district and neighboring areas. Monitor forest developments to assess changes in forest quality and reserves to serve the work of forest protection and development. Strictly manage the use of forests and forestry land, have solutions to handle the situation where forest owners, after being allocated land and forests, use them for the wrong purposes or let forests be illegally exploited without timely measures to prevent them.

Every year, the unit advises on strengthening the steering committee for implementing the target program for sustainable forestry development. Develops operating regulations; assigns tasks to each member in charge of the area. Develops and signs a plan to coordinate the forest protection and fire prevention forces, and combat forest product smuggling with the border forest rangers, police, and military forces from the district to the communes. Develops a plan for forest protection and fire prevention in 2025 according to the "4 on-site" motto; establishes 127 forest protection and fire prevention teams in villages (hamlets) with 1,452 participants. Regularly reviews and supplements means and tools to ensure the requirements of forest fire fighting tasks. Timely advises the district steering committee to develop plans and conduct inspections of forest protection and fire prevention work in communes, towns, and state forest owners.

In 2024 and the first 4 months of 2025, Nhu Xuan Forest Protection Department coordinated to organize 148 propaganda sessions on forest protection and fire prevention for 5,188 participants; propagated forest fire warnings through the district and commune loudspeaker system 331 times; organized 2 propaganda sessions for more than 400 students at schools; coordinated with the mass mobilization bloc and the commune Fatherland Front to organize propaganda on forest protection and fire prevention in block activities 4 times with 220 participants. Coordinated with functional forces and commune authorities, forest owners organized forest patrols 370 times with over 1,783 participants; detected, prevented and recorded 16 administrative violations, collecting 273.5 million VND to the State budget.

Forest security is stable, people in the district focus on developing forest economy, making the hill forest economy one of the key economic sectors of the locality. Many hill forest economic models bring in hundreds of millions of VND in annual income. Up to now, the whole district has 24,405 hectares of planted forests, mainly acacia trees, of which over 1,444 hectares are large timber forests, 486 hectares are FSC certified forests in Thuong Ninh commune. In the district, there are 16 enterprises and forest product processing facilities in operation. Due to sufficient supply of raw materials, the production activities of enterprises and forest product processing facilities in the area are always stable, many units develop, expand production scale, invest in improving technology, production lines to increase output and improve product quality and value, meeting the increasingly high demands of the market. Thereby, creating jobs for hundreds of workers, with income from 5 - 7 million VND/person/month.
