Students account for more than 1/5 of the population and are the future masters of the country. Increasing the rate of participation in health insurance among students is not only important in realizing the goal of universal health insurance but also contributes positively to the cause of innovation and development of the country. To concretize the policy of the Party and the State, Vietnam Social Security and the Education and Training sector have closely coordinated in propaganda work and organizing the implementation of health insurance policies for students. Thanks to that, the rate of students participating in health insurance has increased, now approaching the target of 100% coverage.
Student health insurance coverage is increasingly expanding.
In Phu Tho , in the 2024-2025 school year, the rate of students participating in health insurance reached 98.8%. In the 2025-2026 school year, the State has a policy to support an increase from 30% to 50% of health insurance contributions. The province strives to complete 100% of students participating, ensuring their rights to medical examination and treatment.
Previously, some parents had the idea that only when their children had incurable, chronic diseases, requiring treatment with high medical examination and treatment costs would they participate in health insurance, but now, most parents have proactively participated in health insurance for their children. In addition, benefits have been expanded, the quality of medical examination and treatment has been increasingly improved, procedures are convenient and open, and access to high-tech medical services with high costs. The results of health insurance examination and treatment for students show that the health insurance fund has paid for many patients who are students with incurable, chronic diseases such as kidney failure, cancer, cardiovascular disease... with treatment costs ranging from tens of millions to billions of dong.
Over the years, the Party and the State have always paid attention to the development and improvement of health insurance policies in general as well as the direction and implementation of health insurance policies for students in particular. From the direction to the system of related legal documents, it has clearly shown great determination in implementing the law on health insurance, considering students as the group of subjects that need to be given top priority. This affirms the consistency in the policy of implementing health insurance for students as an important step towards the goal of universal health insurance.
To achieve this goal, Phu Tho College of Medicine and Pharmacy has closely coordinated with the Social Insurance sector in propaganda work, helping lecturers and students better understand the meaning and role of health insurance. Thereby, gradually raising the sense of responsibility in implementing the Health Insurance Law, contributing to ensuring the health care rights of students in their own learning environment.
Every year, the school has over 97% of students participating in health insurance. This shows that students' awareness of the meaning and importance of health insurance policy has changed significantly. Actively participating in health insurance not only helps students protect and take care of their own health but also demonstrates a sense of responsibility to the community.
At Xuan Lung Secondary School, thanks to good propaganda and mobilization work, every year, 100% of students participate in health insurance, are guaranteed and enjoy full benefits according to regulations if they are sick or ill; receive primary health care right at school and medical examination and treatment with convenient procedures; have access to high-tech medical services, high costs... This is a solid foundation to help students feel secure in studying and developing.
Teacher Nguyen Le Hoang, Principal of Xuan Lung Secondary School, shared: “Participating in health insurance is not only an obligation but also a legitimate and practical right for students. When facing health risks, students no longer have to worry about large treatment costs, so they can study and practice with peace of mind. Families also reduce their economic burden, contributing to building a fair and humane educational environment.”
