What is special about the Bat Cave complex that has just been honored, hundreds of millions of years old?

The Bat Cave complex, formed between 530 and 158 million years ago, has just been recognized as a provincial relic and is one of the oldest rock formations in the Quang Nam - Da Nang region.

On the morning of July 21, the People's Committee of Thanh Binh Commune (Da Nang City) held a ceremony to receive the provincial-level relic ranking certificate "Bat Cave Scenic Area", located in Tien An Commune (Tien Phuoc District, former Quang Nam Province).

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Mr. Duong Duc Lin, Chairman of Thanh Binh Commune People's Committee, said that Bat Cave was ranked as a provincial-level relic by the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province (now Da Nang City People's Committee) on June 17.

The Bat Cave complex was formed from 530 to 158 million years ago, and is one of the oldest rock formations in the Quang Nam - Da Nang region. The rocks of the Kham Duc and Nui Vu formations are metamorphic rocks exposed on a large scale in the Bat Cave landscape, clearly shown through their color, foliation, and micro-folding structure...

This is a rare exposure in the tropics because it is entirely bedrock, while in most other places (in Yen Bai , Nghe An and the Central Highlands) bedrock is heavily weathered. The exposed bedrock of Bat Cave is like a natural museum of geological activity, contributing to clarifying the history of an important geological development stage of the earth.

Therefore, these are interesting places to visit, study and research to understand the environment that forms rocks and the natural transformation process under the influence of temperature, pressure and tectonic fields.

According to Mr. Lin, Bat Cave has a very charming natural landscape. The slate cliffs are very sharply abraded, creating strange and attractive lines like ancient characters on the surface of the cliffs.

In addition, the stone blocks are sturdy and have majestic shapes; the natural images are like abstract stone drawings and paintings on the surface of the stone slabs. The strangely shaped stone blocks make viewers speculate and imagine...

During the resistance war against France and the US, Bat Cave was the base of revolutionary organizations of Zone 5, Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee and the old Tien Phuoc District. This was the place chosen by QB 150 Engineering Workshop of Zone 5 as the base for the production of weapons and ammunition. Thanks to the abundant source of bat droppings in the caves, workers exploited it to produce gunpowder, ensuring the supply of ammunition for the entire battlefield of Zone 5.

Unit C45 Tien Phuoc District Military Command also chose Bat Cave as a base, both to consolidate and build forces and to coordinate with local militia to increase patrols and control the area during the anti-American period.

"The dangerous location of Bat Cave is a safe shelter for the activities of revolutionary organizations, contributing to the final victory of our people's resistance war against foreign invaders...", Mr. Duong Duc Lin shared.
