According to the organizers of the Vietnam Bakery Cup (VNBC) 2024, this is an opportunity for young chefs to learn and assert themselves, thereby contributing to the development of the bakery industry in Vietnam.
VNBC 2024 is organized by the Vietnam Bakery Association (Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association) in collaboration with the Saigon Professional Chefs Association. This is a professional and international-class competition, in addition to ensuring the competition of baking skills, it is also an opportunity to promote Vietnamese cuisine and tourism.
The competition is open to professional pastry chefs, cooks, and sculptors who want to be recognized as MasterChefs certified by the World Chef Association.
Contestants can participate from 8am to 4pm from December 11 to 13.
The judges of the competition are Vietnamese and international judges with experience in judging domestic and international competitions from 20 countries around the world. These are professional chefs with many years of experience in the baking industry and have won many awards at home and abroad.
On October 9, the representative of the organizing committee discussed more about the competition. Mr. Pham Son Vuong - Chairman of the Saigon Professional Chefs Association - said that for the first time, the competition focused on the creativity of the contestants and their baking skills in both traditional and modern lines.
"The cake competition is held in Vietnam, which is very lucky. Every year, chefs go abroad to compete, judge and learn from international chefs, which costs a lot of money.
The international judges who come to Vietnam to judge all commit to promoting the image, dishes and experiences in Vietnam. This is one of the regulations of the World Chefs Association when assigning international judges to judge each country. This will help develop Vietnamese cuisine and tourism very effectively," Mr. Son Vuong expected.
Mr. Doanh Diep, head of the business department of Tan Nhat Huong Company, said that currently in Vietnam there are many good chefs but they are only limited to the domestic market. The influence of the competition will help many people know about Vietnamese cuisine and cakes as well as the chefs.
"With the competition held in Vietnam, we also send a clearer message that the Vietnamese bakery industry does not depend on foreign ingredients, but uses Vietnamese ingredients to make European cakes," said Mr. Diep.
Mr. Phung Quoc Tuan, deputy general director of Hy Lam Mon, also hopes that the contest will find many talented bakers in Vietnam to promote cuisine to the world market.
According to Mr. Tuan, Vietnamese pastry chefs have relatively good skills compared to other countries and if they have the opportunity to learn the experience, techniques, and ideas of world chefs, Vietnamese cuisine will be promoted more internationally.
According to the organizers, in addition to the exhibition space for cakes and the contest, people and tourists can also participate in seminars, discussions, and talk shows on the topic of cakes...
