Quarter I.2025: Nationwide 4,760 traffic accidents occurred

The first quarter of 2025 is the first phase of implementing new regulations of the Road Traffic Safety Law, the Road Law and Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP of the Government . Ministries and branches have synchronously and drastically implemented solutions in the Law and sub-law documents, achieving many very positive results.

The Ministry of Public Security 's strict implementation of the contents of Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP has contributed to restoring order in traffic and building the habit of obeying the law. Many previously common violations such as drinking alcohol, speeding, and running red lights have decreased significantly compared to the same period.

In the first quarter of 2025 (from December 15, 2024 to March 14, 2025), according to data from the Office of the Ministry of Public Security, there were 4,760 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 2,615 people and injuring 3,186 people. Compared to the same period in 2024, there was a decrease of 1,833 cases (down 27.8%), a decrease of 215 deaths (down 7.6%), and a decrease of 2,003 injuries (down 38.6%).

Regarding infrastructure and traffic organization, in the first quarter, 6 projects were started and 1 project was completed. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), following the direction of the Prime Minister, on April 19, 2025, 80 projects were started and inaugurated, including 40 projects in the transport sector.

In particular, the Ministry of Construction organized the online inauguration of 8 projects, including many large-scale national important projects such as: the North-South expressway routes in the East phase 2021-2025; Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway project; T3 terminal project - Tan Son Nhat International Airport... The projects put into operation have contributed to facilitating traffic, reducing accidents, ensuring traffic safety and promoting socio-economic development of the localities where the projects pass through.

At the conference, representatives of ministries, branches, and Traffic Safety Committees of provinces and cities focused on discussing a number of issues related to the results of ensuring traffic safety in the first quarter in the area; the situation of traffic congestion and solutions to reduce it; analyzing and evaluating particularly serious traffic accidents; handling of violations by topic in recent times; reviewing and handling existing problems and inadequacies in the traffic light and sign systems; traffic safety education at all levels...

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the efforts of ministries, branches and localities in synchronously implementing solutions over the past time.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that it is necessary to continue to proactively follow new legal regulations, effectively implement the traffic safety plan of ministries, branches and localities; step up propaganda work to raise awareness of traffic participants, especially in schools. The authorities should strengthen strict handling of violations of traffic safety.
