Stabilize resources

Based on the reality of sports development in the province, Hau Giang chose to participate in 17/27 sports at the 2023 Mekong Delta Sports Festival, including: kickboxing, boxing, judo, Vovinam, basketball, tennis, cross-country, jujitsu, archery, athletics, petanque, canoeing, weightlifting, karate, traditional martial arts, kurash, table tennis, an increase of 5 sports compared to the previous festival. Mr. Huynh Thanh Tai, Head of the provincial judo-jujitsu department, shared: “In addition to judo, the department also has the responsibility of participating in jujitsu and kurash, so we have to arrange and balance resources to ensure. Along with the regular force, we will add athletes from some training clubs to participate in the competition. The current athletes are training at the Hau Giang Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, some in Ho Chi Minh City, 3 sessions a day, early morning, morning, and afternoon to strengthen their physical strength, improve their techniques and expertise.”

The sports participating in the congress have all received increased training and sent to many provinces and cities, especially at national sports training centers. Coaches of each sport have developed specific plans and strategies for training, practice and competition programs to prepare for the congress. For boxing, table tennis, tennis, traditional martial arts, cross-country (no centralized training), athletes will be gathered for training 30-45 days before the competition. For archery, canoeing, weightlifting, athletics, karate, kickboxing, petanque, Vovinam, judo, jujitsu, kurash, basketball, there will be additional food allowances for athletes during the competition according to regulations.

We are determined to do well in the assigned tasks. The athletes are practicing hard with high spirits to have a stable mental state and performance to compete at the congress.”

The sports of Hau Giang delegation participating in the congress will start competing from August to October. The athletes have been perfecting their physical foundation, technical and tactical skills, and conducting sprints to achieve the best results. In June, July, and August, the teams will participate in about 20 tournaments before the congress as a necessary practice and practice to adjust their skills.

Be proactive from the organization stage

Of the 27 events held at the 2023 Mekong Delta Sports Festival, Hau Giang will host 7 events: kickboxing, boxing, judo, cross-country, tennis, Vovinam and basketball, creating a great advantage for the province's athletes when competing at home. Because the provincial multi-purpose gymnasium is entering the upgrading and repair phase, the province has proactively sought alternative venues that are suitable in terms of expertise, technology, travel conditions, and accommodation for the delegations... The Nga Bay City Basketball Gymnasium and the Southern Law College Gymnasium (in Vi Thuy district) will be the venues for the competitions.

Vovinam coach of the province, Diep Xuan Man, said: “Each medal won directly affects the overall ranking of the team. We will carefully calculate the competition strategy to set specific goals, based on the analysis and assessment of strength, favorable and difficult conditions. It will not be easy for Hau Giang athletes to face competition from provinces and cities in the region, but all are determined to improve, practice and compete with all their might.”

The subcommittees in charge of the congress have also assigned specific tasks to each member; proposed a schedule for the congress with a schedule that ensures fullness, convenience, efficiency, and quality; prepared facilities, equipment, and personnel for the opening ceremony, etc. It is expected that in mid-June, a meeting will be held between the Organizing Committee of the 2023 Mekong Delta Sports Festival with provinces and cities in the region to agree on a number of issues related to hosting and organizing competitions. Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hung, Director of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, said: “Immediately after the 8th congress, we assessed and learned from the shortcomings and limitations in the competition and training process and restructured the training system for the subjects and distributed achievements. This year, the quality of participating athletes is expected to be higher than the previous congress, which is a combination of experience and youth, and a long preparation process”.

With each congress, Hau Giang's sports achievements are gradually getting closer to many provinces and cities in the region, helping athletes gain more experience to improve themselves. Creating solid steps, opening a new path full of convenience and success for the province's sports.

At the 8th Mekong Delta Sports Festival - Vinh Long in 2020, Hau Giang delegation ranked 11/14 participating delegations, with 15 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 22 bronze medals.
