In late March 2025, we had the opportunity to visit the cattle farming model of Mr. Nguyen Van Manh's family, Kep III village, Quyet Thang commune - one of the typical households in the fattening cattle farming movement that brings high income. Mr. Manh said: In 2019, after participating in training courses of the commune and district, my family learned about the method of fattening cattle and invested in building barns for raising cattle. Since then, the barn has always maintained from 22 to 25 cows. On average, my family sells about 20 cows each year, bringing in a profit of over 200 million VND.
Not only Mr. Manh's family, in recent years, many households in Quyet Thang commune have proactively built suitable economic models to develop the economy. Up to now, the whole commune has developed over 40 effective production models, typically: fruit tree growing model (over 20 hectares); black canarium growing model (15 hectares); macadamia growing model (2 hectares); baby melon growing model (over 20 hectares); J02 rice growing model (over 7 hectares); commercial chicken raising model (over 25,000 chickens); ... bringing income to many households from 150 to 250 million VND/year. In addition to the above models, people in the commune are currently continuing to experiment with a number of other models such as commercial buffalo and cattle raising...
Mr. Luong Van Binh, Party Secretary and Chairman of Quyet Thang Commune People's Committee, said: In order for people to have effective farming and planting techniques, for each model we organize guidance and training for households, including periodic training and specialized training. Every year, the commune government coordinates with the District Agricultural Service Center to organize 8 to 10 training courses on farming and livestock farming processes and techniques for people. For effective models, we guide people to expand the scale, improve productivity and quality. Along with that, the commune mobilizes the establishment and development of cooperatives. Up to now, the commune has mobilized the establishment of 2 cooperatives and 3 cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector.
Ms. Pham Thi Nam, Head of the Black Canarium Growing Cooperative Group, said: In 2020, through training courses on science and technology transfer in the commune, I learned about the safe canarium growing model and participated in black canarium production according to VietGAP process. In 2023, I established a black canarium growing cooperative group, consisting of 12 members. Accordingly, we have focused on applying science and technology to the care stage and have seen clear results, with a high fruit set rate. Up to now, the members of the group have planted and cared for over 5 hectares according to VietGAP standards. On average, each year, we harvest 3 - 4 quintals of fruit/ha, double that of the traditional care process.
Along with training, to provide people with resources to invest in developing production models, the Party Committee and the commune government have directed organizations and unions to receive the trust to support people in accessing preferential loans; support policies. Up to now, the commune has had 429 households receiving preferential loans with a total outstanding loan balance at the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office reaching nearly 27.3 billion VND. The loan capital is mainly used by people for the purpose of growing fruit trees and raising livestock. In addition, from 2020 to present, the commune government has promoted and guided people to access preferential loan sources, especially loans under Resolution No. 08/2019 of the Provincial People's Council on special policies to encourage investment, develop cooperation, link production and consumption of agricultural and rural products in the province in the period of 2020 - 2025. Accordingly, since its implementation, the commune has coordinated to disburse 6 projects with an amount of 3 billion VND.
It can be seen that the development of production models has been actively contributing to poverty reduction and increasing income for people in Quyet Thang commune. Specifically, by the end of 2024, the poverty rate of the whole commune will be 2.75%, down 15% compared to 2020; the average income per capita of the commune is currently 45.7 million VND/person/year, an increase of 20 million VND compared to 2020.
