At the same time, the company has indefinitely delayed the launch of its successor, which was scheduled to launch next year.
Inventory Management
Although praised by the technology world for its groundbreaking, ultra-thin design, the first generation iPhone Air received mixed reviews due to its many imperfections.
The phone has been criticized for having the shortest battery life of the entire lineup this year. In addition, the device is equipped with only one camera sensor and one speaker.
Notably, in addition to having many cuts, the selling price of the iPhone Air is also more expensive than the standard iPhone 17 - a model that does not encounter any of the above disadvantages.
Due to lack of interest from customers, production of the current iPhone Air is coming to an end. Foxconn is said to have only one and a half production lines for this model and is expected to close them by the end of the month.
Luxshare - the remaining assembly partner - has stopped production since late October.
Meanwhile, both giants are still maintaining dozens of production lines for better-selling models like the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple initially allocated 10% of production to the iPhone Air, a plan that was clearly too optimistic. The company now has too much inventory, forcing retailers to constantly slash prices to move inventory.
Plans for iPhone Air 2 delayed
Apple had originally planned to launch a second version (internally codenamed V62) at an event in September next year. This revision is expected to be lighter, have a larger battery, and feature a vapor chamber for improved cooling.
However, Apple executives informed engineers and suppliers that they would remove the model from the release schedule without giving a new launch date — a decision that is considered rare, even unprecedented.
According to the latest report from journalist Wayne Ma of The Information , Apple wants to delay the launch date to have time to bring a more attractive new design to customers.
The "iPhone Air 2" is expected to be upgraded with a second camera, and some engineers hope it could be released in the spring of 2027.
In the Vietnamese market, iPhone Air costs from 31 million VND (standard version).
