Launch of the Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association

On June 13, in Porto city (Portugal), the official launching ceremony of the Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association took place.

Attending the ceremony were Charge d'Affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal Nguyen Manh Thang, Lawyer Jose Pedro Viera, President of the Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association, Mr. Henrique Calisto, former Head Coach of the Vietnam men's football team, Vice President of the Association, and more than 30 members of the Association.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lawyer Jose Pedro Viera, President of the Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association, expressed his joy at the official establishment of the Friendship Association, bringing together many Portuguese individuals working in various fields but all sharing affection for Vietnam and a common desire to contribute to promoting understanding, solidarity and cooperation between the people of the two countries.

President Jose Pedro Viera emphasized that before the Association was established, its members had made many positive contributions to promoting cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economics , education - training, culture, sports, cooperation between localities, etc.; affirmed that in the coming time, the Association will carry out many specific activities to enhance people-to-people exchanges, connect businesses, promote local cooperation, cooperation between universities, cultural and sports exchanges between the two countries.

Charge d'Affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal Nguyen Manh Thang presented a souvenir to the leader of the Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association, Lawyer Jose Pedro Viera.

Chargé d'Affaires Nguyen Manh Thang congratulated the establishment of the Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He said that this is an important event, contributing to promoting the good friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Portugal.

Appreciating the positive contributions of the Association's members in the past time, Chargé d'Affaires Nguyen Manh Thang suggested that in the coming time, the Association should continue to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam to the Portuguese people, actively carry out cooperation activities with Vietnam in areas of expertise, strengths and capacities of the Association's members, support and participate in foreign affairs activities organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal, especially important foreign affairs events, and implement projects to support the community in Vietnam.

The Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association was established by a group of Portuguese friends who love Vietnam. They have made many positive contributions to promoting the friendship and good cooperation between the two countries in recent times, such as connecting the twinning relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Porto City (July 2023), between Dong Nai Province and Nova Villa de Gaia City (May 2025), cooperation between the Faculty of Economics of Hanoi National University and the Faculty of Economics of Porto University as well as many activities to promote trade, investment, cultural and sports exchanges.

According to VNA correspondents in Europe, the Association currently has about 50 members from major cities in Portugal such as Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Nova Villa de Gaia and working in many different professions such as lawyers, university lecturers, sports coaches, and civil servants in the City Council.
