In particular, in the group of patients with severe myopia, early detection and treatment of retinal lesions such as peripheral degeneration, retinal tears or risk of retinal detachment is an indispensable step.
These lesions, if not detected and treated promptly, can lead to severe visual impairment or even permanent vision loss.

This not only affects the surgical results but also greatly affects the patient's daily quality of life, from studying, working to daily activities. Timely preventive treatment plays a key role in protecting vision and helping patients maintain an active, independent life after surgery.
According to Dr. Quynh, for people with myopia, especially those with high myopia, the eyeball axis is longer than normal, so the retina is stretched and thinned, especially the peripheral retina (the area of the retina located at the farthest end, which is the weakest area). This condition can cause degenerative damage, creating tears due to the contraction of the vitreous.
When there is such a tear, the risk of retinal detachment is very high. Retinal detachment is a serious disease in ophthalmology.
There are patients who come to the clinic for myopia surgery, have their fundus examined, and have peripheral retinal examination, and the doctor discovers damage to the fundus. There are even cases where when they come to the clinic, they already have complications of retinal detachment, but because the detachment is in a remote, hidden area, not yet in the center, it has not affected vision, so the patient is almost unaware.

Specialist Doctor II Nguyen Dang Dung, an expert with 25 years of experience in the field of refractive surgery, added that today, controlling myopia is a trend, with many new techniques. Similarly, with refractive surgery, there are many new machines with many different surgical methods.
“Therefore, we need to be very careful in prescribing and identifying each disease in order to come up with the appropriate prescribing method.
In fact, with the explosive development of technology and the system of private eye hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, patients themselves are very confused, not knowing which method to choose, what criteria to choose," Dr. Dung emphasized.
