Rashford is at risk of not playing in La Liga. |
Despite passing a medical and training with the team on July 21, the 27-year-old English striker has not been registered to play due to Barcelona's strict financial and wage restrictions.
According to Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam, Barcelona currently cannot register Rashford without selling players to free up wage funds.
This situation makes the seemingly completed contract become fragile. Previously, journalist Andy Brassell also warned that La Liga could not allow Barcelona to register Rashford in La Liga if the Catalan club did not comply with financial restrictions, similar to what happened with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor last season.
Barcelona have failed to sign Nico Williams and Luis Diaz for similar reasons, and are now counting on completing the signing of Rashford, who has agreed to take a pay cut, give up image rights and bonuses to get the deal through. Barca are under no obligation to buy, but have agreed a £26m buy-back clause in the summer of 2026.
For his part, Rashford is desperate to return to action to salvage his career and keep alive his hopes of making the England squad for the 2026 World Cup under Thomas Tuchel. Last season, he enjoyed a slight revival at Aston Villa, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 17 games, but that was not enough to warrant a £40m move.
From Manchester United, Rashford is no longer in coach Ruben Amorim's plans. Therefore, a loan deal to Barcelona is the English striker's last hope to rebuild his career.
