EPFL research group (Switzerland) has just announced a completely edible soft robot, including the power supply. The materials used include wax and gelatin, which are safe, biodegradable, and even come in fruit flavors.
The robot acts like a pneumatic robot, but the entire structure can chew and swallow whole. The energy is created from the reaction between baking soda and citric acid, producing CO₂ gas for movement.
The side reaction produces sodium citrate - a safe food additive that replaces the role of traditional batteries. The initial application was to deliver drugs or vaccines to wild animals in epidemic prevention campaigns. The project also tested a fruit-flavored soft actuator on humans to verify safety.
Edible robots promise to become the foundation for a new generation of sustainable soft robots, with applications in medicine and rescue. Dear readers, please watch more videos : Breakthrough in the humanoid robot revolution | VTV24
