Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi has demonstrated fast charging technology with a capacity of 300W, which can fully charge a smartphone battery in less than 5 minutes.
In the video posted on Weibo, the customized version of the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition is connected to a fast charger. The phone in the video has a 4,100 mAh battery instead of the 4,300 mAh of the regular version.

According to Redmi, the device's battery uses a new carbon material instead of graphite, reducing the electrode thickness by about 35%. The design tweaks help the battery have a high energy density, optimize heat dissipation and ensure safe charging.
The charger with 2 GaN chips can charge the phone to 50% battery in 2 minutes and 12 seconds. By the 5th minute, the 4,100 mAh battery is charged to 100%. According to The Verge , that time is even shorter than the user's breakfast.
The current meter shows that the charging power hits 290W for a few seconds, then stabilizes at 280W for about 2 minutes. Redmi says 300W is a theoretical power.
That's still an impressive number because the standard version of the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition supports 210W power, which can fully charge the battery in 9 minutes. Redmi has not yet announced the time to commercialize 300W charging technology.
According to GSMArena , Redmi is also the first smartphone company to introduce charging technology higher than 200W.
In October 2022, the company launched the Redmi Note 12 Explorer model with 210W charging technology, allowing a 4,300 mAh battery to be fully charged in 9 minutes, with 66% charged after the first 5 minutes.
Due to its new design, the 300W charger shown in Redmi's video is the same size as the 210W charger.
Super fast charging technologies often use proprietary technology developed by the manufacturer. Thanks to GaN technology, today's fast chargers are compact in size.
In early February, Realme also demonstrated 240W charging technology, which can fully charge the GT Neo 5 model in less than 10 minutes. At the MWC 2023 mobile exhibition, the product was launched in the international market under the name Realme GT3.
Other companies like OnePlus and Xiaomi also have their own fast charging technology. In particular, OnePlus 10T stands out with 125W fast charging technology, helping to fully charge the battery in about 20 minutes.
