Not only a place to recreate history, the stage is also a space to connect emotions, where artists breathe life into the past with passion and heart, arousing heroic memories and fostering patriotism in today's audience.

Touching reenactment of images of wounded and martyrs

With elaborate staging, filming and broadcasting on VTV channels and social media platforms, the play Comrade is still one of the prides of Dong Nai Art Theater. The play explores the image of a soldier who has gone through the flames of war, with the character of Mr. Trung (performed by artist Thanh Vinh) not afraid to sacrifice, only to be disabled for life. Returning to peacetime, he lives an exemplary life, setting an example for his children and grandchildren to follow.

For Mr. Trung, the memory of his fallen comrades is always the most sacred part of his life. Even though life has changed or some people have forgotten what his fathers have been through, for Mr. Trung it has not. Meeting those who once held guns by his side, no matter which side he was on, he still maintains his tolerance and comradeship. That spirit is not just a memory, but a reminder to the next generation of morality and responsibility to the country.

Also exploring the theme of wounded soldiers and martyrs, the excerpt from the opera Sac hoa mau nho (The Color of Flowers and Memories) was livestreamed on the fanpage of Dong Nai Art Theater recently, moving the audience. Artist Thanh Vinh plays the role of Mr. Hung - a blind old soldier, carrying in his heart the torment of his comrades who have fallen on the battlefield and deep memories of Tu Lai, the girl he once loved and thought had died. For many years, he has quietly burned incense to commemorate her as a part of his life.

Artist Thanh Vinh shared: “To be able to play roles like Mr. Trung and Mr. Hung is not only an honor, but also a responsibility for me. I always try to portray the characters with all my respect, so that the audience can understand that behind the wounds are stories, comradeship, deep gratitude and unchanging patriotism.”

Artist Hong Gam, one of the familiar faces of Dong Nai stage, has participated in many plays and excerpts of reformed opera about wounded soldiers and martyrs. For her, being able to transform into mothers, wives, and relatives in the rear is also a way to tell the silent losses, no less painful than those of soldiers participating in the war. These roles not only have emotional depth, touching the hearts of viewers, but also connect generations, reminding them of the value of peace and gratitude.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc, a student at Lac Hong University (Tran Bien ward), shared: "The stories help me understand more about the difficulties and losses that our ancestors' generation experienced, to appreciate peace and live more responsibly."

Extending gratitude, awakening patriotism

The theme of war invalids and martyrs is not easy to stage, due to its specificity, historical depth and high emotional requirements. However, over the years, Dong Nai Art Theater has been diligently staging and performing plays and excerpts from reformed opera; at the same time, building and performing gratitude art programs in July. Thereby, educating tradition, expressing deep gratitude to generations of fathers and ancestors who sacrificed and contributed to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland and spreading the good morality of the nation "When drinking water, remember its source".

Not stopping at traditional performances, Dong Nai Art Theater also proactively applies technology to performances and promotion of works.

Deputy Director of Dong Nai Art Theater Nguyen Viet Bac said that putting excerpts and Cai Luong plays on digital platforms such as YouTube and Facebook has helped the artwork overcome the limits of space and time, reaching a wide audience. Each play is not only a historical story told through art, but also a "bridge" that brings the audience, especially the youth, back to their roots, nurturing patriotism and a humane lifestyle.

Together with Dong Nai Arts Theater, Dong Nai Literature and Arts Association has recently promoted the creation and promotion of soldier themes, performing dozens of art programs, reformed theater, drama, etc. to serve the people, especially cadres, soldiers, and armed forces in the province.

People's Artist Giang Manh Ha, Vice President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association and President of the Dong Nai Literature and Arts Association, said that each program attracts a large number of people to participate, creating a very effective stage effect. This is not only a driving force to encourage artists in the province to continue creating, but also a testament to the enduring vitality of traditional theater and the role of art in modern life.
