Regarding the irrigation system, the province currently has 452 dams, 447 pumping stations, more than 6,000 km of irrigation canals of all kinds and a dike system. Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has proactively proposed plans to maintain and repair irrigation works; prevent and combat riverbank erosion in areas at risk of erosion, seriously affecting dike works, residential areas and important infrastructure.
At the same time, proactively review and evaluate the current status of irrigation works, identify key vulnerable dykes and develop dyke protection plans. In 2024 alone, the province invested in upgrading more than 4km of dykes from level III and above, completing the construction and upgrading of many important irrigation works and reservoirs. However, in 2024, the whole province was affected by 3 major natural disasters, killing 6 people, injuring 3 people, with total damage caused by natural disasters of about 858 billion VND.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the 2025 storm season, storms may form in many different areas, likely appearing sporadically throughout the storm season instead of concentrating on certain months, the first storm may appear in late May or early June.
To proactively and effectively carry out disaster prevention and control during the 2025 storm season, minimizing damage caused by storms, the Provincial People's Committee directed to urgently review and strengthen the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control at all levels, closely follow the weather situation to develop response plans according to the "4 on-site" motto, and assign specific tasks to each relevant unit.
Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is the focal agency to develop the province's 2025 disaster prevention and control plan, ensuring the safety of the dike and irrigation systems, coordinating with departments, branches and localities to fully prepare human resources and materials for disaster prevention and control work.
The Department of Construction coordinates with localities to inspect and ensure the safety of construction works; armed forces are ready with forces and means to support localities in responding to natural disasters...
