Returning to Ka Lang - a highland border commune with the second largest rice field area in Muong Te district in late May, the image of the people here diligently taking care of the rice fields helped us understand the efforts of the people to have a bumper crop. Taking us to visit her family's fields, Ms. Po Gio Nu in Me Giong village shared: Due to specific factors, farmers in Me Giong village and Ka Lang commune can only grow one rice crop. This year's weather is favorable, with early rain, so the people in the village proactively prepare the land and sow rice seedlings. This year's crop, my family has grown more than 2,500m2, and the rice plants are growing well. Following the instructions of agricultural officials, the people in the village focused on weeding the fields and regulating the water in the fields accordingly. At the same time, they bought nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and organic fertilizers to fertilize the rice to stimulate strong tillering and implemented steps to prevent and control pests and diseases for the rice.
Together with the people of Ka Lang commune, in the highland and border communes of Muong Te district, early crop production has been actively implemented. Typically, Thu Lum commune - a locality with a large rice field area (about 240 hectares), clearly identifying the importance of production to successfully carry out the task of ensuring local food security and economic development, the Party Committee, government and people in the commune proactively implemented solutions to cultivate the crop with high efficiency.
Ka Lang farmers take care of early season rice.
Mr. Phung Long Ca - Chairman of Thu Lum Commune People's Committee said: "Based on the guidance documents of the district and the Department of Agriculture, the commune directs farmers to prepare the land and sow rice seedlings according to the crop schedule. At the same time, the Commune People's Committee uses resources from the National Target Program to support seeds and fertilizers for people. In addition, the commune directs villages to organize the repair of canals, ditches, and irrigation systems to ensure irrigation water for the commune's fields. Specifically, local people have mobilized over 500 working days to dredge and repair over 16km of canals...".
This year's crop, the highland communes of Thu Lum, Ka Lang, Mu Ca, Ta Ba, Pa Ve Su, Pa U... of Muong Te district planted about 1,100 hectares of early-season rice. On terraced fields, farmers have proactively taken measures to sow and care for the crop. The initiative of the people of Muong Te highland in the crop production is the result of the efforts of the Muong Te district Department of Agriculture in advising and proactively implementing the work of guiding and directing people to sow and plant on time.
Talking with Mr. Dao Van Tue - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) of Muong Te district, we learned that: The Department has proactively advised the District People's Committee to direct the People's Committees of the district's highland communes to focus on directing the people of the communes to focus on organizing the planting of rice varieties suitable to the climate and soil conditions such as: LH12, DS1 and PC6, Thien Uu... Requesting the People's Committees of the communes to organize the consolidation of the Commune Irrigation Management Board and the village irrigation management team, organize the repair of irrigation works, and dredge canals to ensure adequate water supply for production. At the same time, coordinate with the District Agricultural Service Center to develop guiding documents and send staff directly to the communes to coordinate with the commune authorities and people to visit the fields to assess the development of rice plants, the impact of pests and diseases, forecast the disease situation on rice plants, proactively stock up on pesticides; organize propaganda and guide farmers on rice care techniques.
This year's weather is favorable, the early-season rice fields in the highland communes of Muong Te district are growing and developing well. With the strong attention and direction of authorities at all levels, professional agencies and the efforts of farmers, we believe that the winter-spring rice area will develop stably, and people in the highland and border communes of Muong Te district will have a successful crop.
