In recent times, while the rate of smoking conventional cigarettes has decreased, the rate of using electronic cigarettes has increased rapidly, especially among young people.
In 2019, about 2.6% of 15-17 year old students smoked e-cigarettes, but by 2022, this rate increased to 3.5% and is getting younger.
The Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund ( Ministry of Health ) emphasizes that preventing smoking among young people is one of the priority goals in policies on tobacco harm prevention.

Online discussion on the dangers of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products will take place at 2:30 p.m. on November 12 on Dan Tri newspaper.
In recent times, with the support of the Fund, the proactive and active participation of the Ministry of Education and Training , provinces and cities, tobacco prevention work in schools has achieved many positive results.
Specifically, the smoking rate in the 13-15 age group decreased from 2.5% (in 2014) to 1.9% (in 2022). In the 13-17 age group, it decreased by 50% (from 5.36% in 2013 to 2.78% in 2019.
Many localities have been proactive in promoting the harmful effects of cigarettes and e-cigarettes in schools.
On November 30, 2024, the National Assembly issued Resolution No. 173/2024/QH15, officially banning the production, trading, import, transportation and use of new generation cigarettes such as e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products from January 1, 2025.
However, e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are still creeping into schools, being promoted as “trendy” and “less toxic than traditional cigarettes”, while posing a great danger to the health and psychology of Vietnamese youth.
To better understand the harmful effects of electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products, Dan Tri Newspaper organized an online discussion program with the topic "Electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products: New threats to the health of Vietnamese youth" .
The discussion will take place at 2:30 p.m. on November 12, with the participation of two guests:
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen, Director of the Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital - who directly treated many cases of e-cigarette poisoning.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam, psychology expert, Vice Principal of the University of Education (VNU Hanoi).
