Lai Chau: Communication on tobacco harm prevention for ethnic minority students

On November 10, Phin Ho Ethnic Boarding Secondary School (Hong Thu Commune, Lai Chau Province) coordinated with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Lai Chau Province to organize a live communication session on the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms and the harmful effects of tobacco in schools.

This program is part of a series of activities to raise awareness among students about preventing and combating traditional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes and new generation tobacco products that are tending to infiltrate schools.

The communication session was led by teacher Ta Van Trang, with a close, intuitive and easy-to-understand communication style. Through data, illustrations and real-life evidence, he helped students understand more deeply about the serious effects of tobacco on health: causing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, cancer, affecting the physical and intellectual development of minors. In particular, electronic cigarettes, which are promoted as "harmless", actually contain nicotine and many dangerous chemicals, are addictive and have negative impacts on the nervous system of students.

Not only providing knowledge, the communication session also guides students on how to recognize, refuse and avoid cigarettes when being enticed or enticed. Students participated in exchanges, answered questions and discussed in groups with enthusiasm. Many students shared their feelings and pledged to say no to cigarettes, protecting themselves and their friends from the risks of electronic cigarettes.

The message “Say no to tobacco – For health, happiness and future” is emphasized throughout the program. The school also continues to maintain a smoke-free school environment, encouraging each student to become a young propagandist, spreading healthy lifestyles to their families and the community.

The communication session not only provides knowledge and raises awareness but also contributes to building a safe educational environment, aiming at the goal of every student being protected from the harmful effects of tobacco.
