After the US President announced a trade agreement with Vietnam, Nasdaq Composite reached a new peak.

On the evening of July 2, the S&P 500 Index in the US stock market increased after President Trump announced that the country had reached a trade agreement with Vietnam.

At the close of trading on July 2, the S&P 500 index increased 0.47% to a record 6,227 points. The Nasdaq Composite increased 0.9% to a new peak of 20,393 points.

CNBC wrote: "The S&P 500 index rose after President Trump posted information about the agreement between the US and Vietnam on the social network Truth Social."

Shares of several US companies with large supply chains in Vietnam rose immediately after Mr. Trump’s announcement. Nike shares closed up 4%. Lululemon rose 0.5%.

Columbia Sportswear rose 1.5%. VF Corporation, which owns The North Face and Vans, rose nearly 2%.

In April 2025, the White House owner announced a series of new tariffs applicable to many trading partners, but postponed implementation for many countries for 90 days to facilitate negotiations with partners.

The Trump administration aims to reach 90 trade deals in 90 days.

However, Mr. Trump also emphasized that it is very difficult to have separate agreements with each partner because "there are more than 200 countries and we cannot talk to each of them."
