There will be a train at 5am from Dong Ha station to Dong Hoi to serve officials and people after the province's merger.

This took place in the context of the two provinces preparing to merge into the new Quang Tri province, with the provincial capital located in Dong Hoi city according to the resolution of the Central and Government.

Currently, Quang Tri has more than 2,600 cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers. After the merger, about 50% of these people will regularly travel between Dong Ha and Dong Hoi, leading to an increase in the demand for rail travel of about 400 people. In this situation, the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee has proposed that the Vietnam Railway Corporation adjust the train schedule on the Dong Ha - Dong Hoi route to match working hours.

Accordingly, Vietnam Railway Corporation agreed with the proposal of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province on serving the travel of people, officials, civil servants and public employees between Dong Hoi city and Dong Ha city.

Specifically, Vietnam Railways Corporation has developed a plan to organize a pair of passenger trains every day from Dong Hoi station to Dong Ha station and vice versa.

The train journey starts from Dong Ha station at 5:00 am and arrives at Dong Hoi station at 7:40 am; the train departs from Dong Hoi station at 5:45 pm and arrives at Dong Ha station at 8:20 pm. Every day, there are 7 soft-seat air-conditioned carriages with 64 seats/carriage and 1 electric service carriage, each train can carry about 448 passengers. The ticket price is about 184 thousand VND/round trip ticket.

According to Vietnam Railways Corporation, after going into operation, if the demand for train travel increases, the unit will add more passenger cars for about 960 people and the ticket price will be reduced accordingly, at least to about 126,000 VND/round trip ticket.

Previously, to facilitate people, officials, civil servants and public employees after the province's merger, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province sent a document to Vietnam Railways Corporation proposing to adjust train schedules and open more specialized trains on the Dong Hoi - Dong Ha route to meet travel needs after the province's merger.

Regarding train schedules, Vietnam Railways Corporation believes that the current train schedule is unified on the entire Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route. Therefore, the proposal to adjust the time frame of passenger trains on the Dong Hoi - Dong Ha section will require further study to match other stops along the route. Vietnam Railways Corporation will continue to study and consider this issue.
