There will be a creative startup center in the Mekong Delta region.

The 2nd Mekong Delta Startup Forum 2024, organized by Dong Thap province in coordination with other units, took place this morning, November 16, and received many opinions and recommendations to support startups.

Professor Phan Van Truong (permanent advisor to the French Government on international trade since the 1990s) believes that we must promote innovative entrepreneurship in the community, not encourage the creation of "corporations" of 30,000 - 50,000 people.

The reality is that we have not seen what the world needs. We need “antennas”, commercial counselors who are clear about each market to support information for startups to have a specific start.

“There is still a gap between the modeling method and real life, because sometimes we forget that in the Southwest region, family traditions and culture will be barriers. But when we bring that tradition to the market, it will create real opportunities and bring specific values,” said Mr. Truong.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat - Minister of Science and Technology - Information, said that the Prime Minister also has drastic instructions to support innovative start-up businesses, initially forming innovative start-up centers in the cities of Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Provinces and cities also need to propose the establishment of this center in the Mekong Delta region to support start-up businesses.

“Localities need to propose support, possibly applying specific, pilot mechanisms associated with national projects such as the project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta.

As well as the science and technology program to respond to climate change for sustainable development, aiming to integrate innovation capacity with regional socio-economic development," said Mr. Dat.

Mr. Pham Thien Nghia - Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee - presented many messages at the second startup forum, emphasizing that Dong Thap strives to become the "Green Transformation Solution Center of the Mekong Delta region" in the future.

“Through the activities of the forum and the newly established Mekong Green Transformation Network, we will promote activities to connect resources and markets to support models, products, and start-up projects, especially in the fields of agriculture and tourism, following the green-circular economy and digital transformation combined with green transformation in the Mekong Delta region,” said Mr. Nghia.
