There was no fifth title for Rory McIlroy at Quail Hollow Club, nor any reward for his close friend Shane Lowry.
At the 2025 Truist Championship (Par70), one of the main events of the PGA Tour , the tournament leading up to the PGA Championship, the victory belonged to Sepp Straka.

It was a spectacular, tense and dramatic battle until the last putt to find the winner.
From the first day at Quail Hollow Club, where the prize fund is 20 million USD (more than 519 billion VND), the race was watched with Straka and Lowry competing for every stroke.
Until the last holes of the final day, specifically hole 15, both scored birdies to maintain the score of -16 strokes.
Fans are speculating about a Truist Championship playoff, something that hasn't happened since 2016.
However, Lowry's shot off the green at the 16th hole changed everything. He made bogey and the Austrian kept par.
Lowry had a chance to tie the game at 17, when Straka made par again. However, he missed a 22-foot birdie putt.
Lowry's mental instability caused him to make another mistake at hole 18 and ended up with a bogey, seeing Straka win the match.
Lowry has fallen short of glory once again. The Irishman has not won a singles title on the PGA Tour since The Open Championship in 2019.

During this time, he only won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April 2024, when paired with Rory McIlroy.
At the Truist Championship – formerly the Wells Fargo Championship – McIlroy failed to defend his title (he holds the record for four wins).
However, a position in the T7 group with a score of -10 is the ideal preparation for McIlroy, the champion of The Masters 2025 , to enter the PGA Championship this week (May 15-18, US time).
After the match, McIlroy was one of the first to congratulate Straka . They were teammates on the European Ryder Cup team.
For his part, Straka has his second win of the 2025 PGA Tour season and fourth of his career, following The American Express in January.
This victory helped the 32-year-old golfer receive a prize of 3.6 million USD (about 93.5 billion VND), a record in his professional golf career.
