The 1996 Ferrari F355 Challenge (2nd generation) is a race car dedicated to the 'Ferrari Challenge' series. The F355 Challenge was introduced in 1995 (replacing the F348 Challenge in the European Ferrari Challenge series) and was developed from the road-going version of the F355 Berlinetta with the addition of a factory bodykit. The F355 Challenge is one of the few cars that combines racing spirit with street legality in Europe. A total of 108 were produced, all with a 6-speed manual transmission. The F355 Challenge was replaced by the F360 Modena Challenge in 2000.
Ferrari cars in the 'Challenge' series all have a conversion package worth 25,000 Euros, about 764 million VND, including racing seats, 6-point seat belts, anti-roll bars, fire extinguishers, competition clutches, lightweight exhaust systems, high-performance Brembo brakes upgraded from the F40... In addition, there is a set of Speedline aluminum alloy wheels combined with slick tires for the track, a suspension system with hard Bushing according to racing standards (less wear in harsh conditions than rubber materials), front/rear tow hooks and a perforated rear grille to increase cooling capacity. Back to the nearly 30-year-old race car - Ferrari F355 Challenge 1996. Perhaps the McDonald's paint job worth 50,000 GBP (converted to about 1.75 billion VND) is the exterior highlight. Next are the pop-up headlights and many interesting equipment packages. The car's owner is Harald Brutschin, a Swiss driver who won the previous two Ferrari Challenge Europe seasons. Brutschin has owned the car for 30 years with an odometer of 27,000 miles (about 43,452.29 km).
To keep the car in perfect condition, the owner has performed a complete maintenance and overhaul with the engine removed. The cost to maintain the F355 is notoriously expensive. In addition, the car has no carpet and minimal soundproofing to reduce maximum weight (car weight is about 1,250 kg). Ferrari F355 Challenge is equipped with a 3.5L V8 engine, the first 5-valve cylinder head is applied to allow better air intake and improved power with 375 horsepower at 8,500 rpm, torque of 362 Nm at 6,200 rpm. As per Challenge regulations the engine is not tuned, but can be fitted with a lightweight exhaust system and dry sump pump.
The V8 engine is mated to a 6-speed gated manual transmission for high performance vehicles, with metal grooves that not only protect and prolong the life of the transmission, but also create the characteristic "click" when shifting gears. The car is equipped with rear-wheel drive and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 4.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 295 km/h. The above figure of 240,000 GBP is only an estimate, it can exceed 306,000 GBP, about 411,611 USD, equivalent to 10.7 billion VND. The F355 Challenge will be brought to the Zoute Concours 2025 organized by Broad Arrow's and the results will be announced on October 10.
