Singaporean experts successfully destroyed a 100kg bomb left over from World War II, after evacuating more than 4,000 people living near the area.
Singapore police said the 100kg bomb was successfully detonated by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team at 1:45 p.m. today (12:45 p.m. Hanoi time). The site of destruction was a construction site on Upper Bukit Timah Road, where the bomb was found on September 20.
More than 40 soldiers took part in the operation. They used sandbags and concrete blocks to build a wall around the bomb, helping to reduce the impact of the explosion. Singapore authorities evacuated more than 4,000 people living nearby this morning.
Buildings and roads were deemed safe after the blast and residents were allowed to return home, according to Singapore police.
