Help workers confidently start a business
At the end of 2019, a major incident happened to the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Sen (born in 1991) in Son Loc commune (Bo Trach), her husband suddenly passed away while working abroad. The great loss made the young woman fall into despair. The burden of making a living along with the large debt borrowed to send her husband abroad made her think about leaving her hometown to work abroad. But then, thanks to the encouragement of relatives, local authorities and especially when approaching the MHSK support program from the project to fight against PCMBN and modern slavery, she chose a different direction: Developing a herbal pig farming model.
With the project's support in technical training, a portion of investment capital to expand the scale, and especially timely spiritual support, Ms. Hoai Sen gradually restored her faith in life. Her herbal pig farming model is a new direction but suitable for local conditions, quickly bringing about clear results. Her herbal pork products are favored by consumers, participating in many OCOP fairs and winning many awards at competitions in and outside the province.
In 2003, the life of Ms. Le Thi Thuy (born in 1967) in Bac Nghia Ward, Dong Hoi City, fell into the abyss when she became a victim of a human trafficking ring to China. More than 19 years of wandering in a foreign land not only caused her to endure physical oppression but also left deep mental wounds. At the end of 2022, when she was rescued and returned to her homeland, she almost completely collapsed, withdrawn into silence and lost her direction.
When she thought she could not recover, she was connected to the project to fight against PCMBN. She received psychological counseling to help her recover mentally, participated in training on farming techniques and was supported with more than 50 million VND to buy guava seeds, chickens, and materials to build a comprehensive farm model right in her family's garden. From a few dozen guava trees and a few dozen chickens at first, up to now, Ms. Thuy's farm has developed stably, providing a steady income every crop. Although not yet a large model, the farm is the place that helps her gradually overcome difficult times. "The most valuable thing about the project is not only the material support, but also being listened to, trusted, and given opportunities. From a person who lost all faith in life, I feel like I have been revived," Ms. Thuy shared.
Together with Ms. Sen and Ms. Thuy, the project has supported many other workers in Quang Binh to find opportunities to start a business and secure income. Not only does it provide initial support, the important thing that the project brings is spiritual encouragement, helping them believe that, no matter what the circumstances, if they have the right direction and are accompanied, they can overcome them.
Create a skill base, expand job opportunities
Ms. Duong Thi Thuong, Deputy Head of the Department of Social Protection - Children and Prevention of Social Evils, Department of Health said: The project "Combating PCMBN and modern slavery - component: Improving skills and employment opportunities for labor groups at high risk of trafficking, especially young laborers who want to migrate" has been implemented since December 2023. Within the framework of the project, two main groups of activities have been organized, including: Supporting short-term vocational training associated with employment and technical support for sustainable development of MHSK.
Short-term vocational training courses are organized right at production facilities, craft villages, and cooperatives - places where there is a real need for labor. From here, learners not only learn practical skills but also have the opportunity to be recruited directly after the course. Models such as: Quang Thuy wooden chopsticks production, Giam Ham fish sauce (Quang Trach), Tuan Linh clean mushrooms, Nhan Tho seafood processing (Bo Trach) ... have become effective "on-site classes", helping workers gain basic skills and create stable income.
Not stopping at vocational training or technical support, the project is gradually changing the development mindset of workers and production facilities in Quang Binh. Short-term vocational training classes, practical MHSK, consulting, connecting and long-term companionship activities have contributed to creating a solid livelihood foundation, limiting illegal migration and the risk of human trafficking", Ms. Le Thi Binh, Program Manager (International Organization for Migration - IOM) affirmed. |
In addition, MHSK technical support activities are also implemented with an in-depth and systematic approach. Owners of production facilities, cooperatives, and business households are directly consulted by experts on management skills, market development, branding, product standardization, market connection, and resource mobilization. After a period of direct work, 22 MHSK in Ba Don town and Bo Trach district were selected to support and create more jobs for many workers, contributing to effectively exploiting the specific strengths of the locality. The implementation of activities always ensures transparency, with close coordination between levels, sectors, and social organizations. From there, participants not only receive material support but also raise awareness about safe migration and PCMBN, which many young workers have never had access to before.
Notably, the activities are implemented flexibly, closely following actual needs, creating high consensus from the government to the people. Thanks to that, instead of leaving their homeland to seek opportunities in foreign lands, more and more young workers choose to stay, learn a trade, start a business and get rich legitimately in their homeland.
Peace of Mind
