Sinner into Rome Masters semi-finals after quick win over Casper Ruud

On the evening of May 15, Jannik Sinner put on a top-notch tennis performance. He started off like a storm, winning 16 of the first 18 points, completely dominating the match against his opponent Casper Ruud.

That perfect start added to the excitement for Sinner to “destroy” the world No. 7 player with a score of 6-0 in the first set. More notably, this was the first time Sinner won a set completely against an opponent in the ATP top 10.

"I wanted to test my form in this tournament. Every day that goes by, I feel the progress clearly. And today is a great proof," Sinner shared after his fourth match since returning to the field.

"Every player has opponents who are more difficult. Today, I tried to reproduce what I did well against Casper Ruud.

I felt everything was working perfectly like sharp serve, effective return and flexible movement," the world No. 1 added.

The statistics show Sinner's overall superiority. He successfully took advantage of 6 out of 9 break-point opportunities. Notably, Sinner's second-serve return rate was up to 81%. In total, Sinner completely dominated Ruud in terms of points won, with the scores being 55 and 22 respectively.

Overcoming Ruud, who just won the first Masters 1000 title of his career in Madrid two weeks ago, Sinner entered the semi-finals of the Rome Masters for the first time.

Here he will face Tommy Paul, who defeated Hubert Hurkacz 7-6, 6-3. If he overcomes Paul, Sinner will wait for the winner of the Alcaraz - Musetti match taking place at 8:30 pm tonight.
