BTO-This morning (September 13), the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Thuan province held a conference to review the "Cham people's religious history" in Binh Thuan province. Attending were Ms. Bo Thi Xuan Linh - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Thuan province; representatives of departments, branches, sectors; Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of districts along with Cham dignitaries, officials, intellectuals in the province.
Cham people in Binh Thuan live scattered in the districts of Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan Nam, Ham Tan, Tanh Linh... Of which, Bani Islam has 20,058 followers, accounting for 1.6% of the population with 10 places of worship, 326 dignitaries; Brahmanism has 18,162 followers, accounting for 1.44% of the population, with 18 places of worship, 73 dignitaries. In addition, there are about 124 Islam followers living in Binh Minh village, Phan Hoa commune, Bac Binh district. Bac Binh district alone is where the most Cham people live, with about 20,044 people, accounting for nearly 2/3 of the Cham population in the whole province. The Cham people in Binh Thuan are divided into 2 main religious groups: Cham Ahier and Cham Awai/Bani (Bani Islam Cham and Brahmanism).
In recent years, ethnic minorities in the province have well implemented the Party's policies and the State's laws and policies; focused on socio-economic development, maintained political security, social order and safety. Party committees, authorities and the Fatherland Front in localities continue to effectively implement ethnic programs and policies, social security policies, care for people's lives, focus on economic development, and effectively support poor ethnic minority households to improve their lives. Production and production services have been directed with attention by local Party committees and authorities.
In the process of mobilizing and building the "Cham people's religious calendar" in Binh Thuan province, the Standing Committee of the Committee received many comments and contributions from dignitaries, officials, intellectuals, Cham followers of Brahmanism and Bani Islam inside and outside the province, creating a combined strength in building, promulgating and putting into use the "Cham people's religious calendar" in 2023. The construction of a unified Cham calendar for common use is in accordance with the legitimate aspirations of the Cham people, in accordance with the practical situation, ensuring scientific nature to create favorable conditions for religious activities, house building ceremonies, weddings, funerals... contributing to building a prosperous and happy family life. Accordingly, in recent times, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Thuan province has stepped up its advocacy and construction of the "Cham people's religious calendar" in Binh Thuan province and received many contributions from dignitaries, officials, intellectuals, and Cham followers of Brahmanism and Bani Islam. Thereby, it has created a combined strength in the construction, promulgation and use of the "Cham people's religious calendar".
At the conference, delegates discussed and agreed on the days of abstinence in religious activities between Brahmanism and Bani Islam in the province to ensure consistency with the "Cham ethnic religious calendar" issued by Binh Thuan province in 2023 and the following years.
Ms. Bo Thi Xuan Linh - Chairwoman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee said: In the coming time, the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee will continue to propagate and mobilize dignitaries, prestigious people and the Cham community to raise awareness in building and putting into use the "Cham people's belief calendar" of Binh Thuan province in 2024 and the following years, contributing to preserving the unique traditional culture of the Cham people in the province. At the same time, review and consolidate the Editorial Board, the Appraisal Council; review the Operating Regulations and assign tasks to members of the Editorial Board, the Appraisal Council of the "Cham people's belief calendar" of Binh Thuan province in 2024 in the direction of clear tasks and effective operation. Enhance the role and responsibility of Party committees, authorities, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels to contribute to bringing the "Cham people's belief calendar" of Binh Thuan province into the daily life of dignitaries, officials and Cham followers in the province...
