According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, on the afternoon of August 11, 2024, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development informed the press that the injection of Navet-Lpvac lumpy skin disease vaccine by the Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company (Navetco) had an impact on cows with diarrhea.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize the procurement of Navet-Lpvac lumpy skin disease vaccine through open bidding and a consortium of 5 winning bidders supplied 8 types of goods (6 types of vaccines, 2 types of chemicals), of which Navet-Lpvac lumpy skin disease vaccine was supplied by the Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company. The procurement of goods ensured full procedures and compliance with legal regulations.
After receiving comments from localities, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committees of districts and communes to specifically inspect the disease situation to determine the cause of the disease. The Navet-Lpvac vaccination was temporarily suspended and a number of temporary disease prevention measures were implemented on dairy cows. The Department has supplied 1,800 liters of chemicals for localities to disinfect and sterilize to prevent the disease.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is focusing resources, materials, and chemicals to protect the health of the cattle herd. After determining the cause of the cattle deaths, it will clarify which cases will be compensated and which cases will be supported. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will thoroughly handle this content so that people can feel secure in production and livestock raising.
TOTAL EFFORTS TO RESCUE SICK COWS
Faced with the serious epidemic affecting dairy cows in Lam Dong province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reviewed solutions and, together with scientists and relevant agencies, has developed a practical treatment regimen.
Accordingly, biosecurity solutions were deployed. The cattle were classified, which were healthy, which were weak, which were more seriously ill, so that appropriate treatment regimens could be developed for each animal.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested Lam Dong province to focus the highest resources on supplies, infusions, supplements, antibiotics, active ingredients, along with the participation of enterprises such as TH True Milk, Vinamilk..., to monitor each herd of cows, each household, ensuring 100% of supplies for each household and each subject.
Assessment of the current situation shows that the health of cows in Lam Dong province has had positive changes. The treatment regimen has been announced step by step to help prevent and repel diarrhea epidemics, maintaining the dairy cow herd in Lam Dong province.
In the past time, in addition to the main force of the districts, the province has mobilized a force of more than 100 people including experts from the Department of Animal Health; provincial-level professional agencies; veterinarians, veterinarians from other localities and veterinarians from livestock breeding, veterinary medicine and feed businesses in the area... to directly support households with sick cows in treatment. At the same time, a Steering Committee for Diarrhea Prevention in Dairy Cows was established in Duc Trong and Don Duong districts, Lam Dong province, headed by the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
Based on the opinions of experts, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has developed and issued a treatment regimen for sick cows and urgently disseminated and instructed people to implement it.
Mobilize resources, receive and distribute a number of immune-boosting, cardiotonic, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and fever-reducing drugs to support people in treating the disease. As of the afternoon of August 12, 2024, the Department has received and distributed 36,580 vials of infusion; 5,590 bottles of vitamin C and Bcomplex; 3,420 bottles of antibiotics and 990 electrolyte packs; 420 liters of Benkocid and 400 protective suits to support local treatment. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to mobilize to ensure adequate amounts of necessary treatment drugs to support people.
After a period of active treatment according to the regimen, some seriously ill cows have shown positive developments, with reduced symptoms; mildly ill cows have no more symptoms, and the number of dead cows has initially decreased.
In the coming time, Lam Dong will continue to focus on implementing the following solutions: Continue to mobilize all resources for disease prevention and control, especially in the two districts of Don Duong and Duc Trong; mobilize and receive supplies and disinfectants and promptly distribute them to people, ensuring that there is no shortage of medicine during the treatment process. At the same time, continue to mobilize forces to directly support and guide people in treatment when cows show symptoms; strengthen sanitation, disinfection and sterilization; quarantine; strictly control the sale, transportation and slaughter of sick cows; continue to propagate and mobilize people to implement disease prevention measures and follow the treatment regimen.
