Yesterday, coach Mourinho was officially fired by the Turkish team, less than a year since he set foot in Istanbul. The loss to Benfica in the Champions League play-off round in midweek, which caused Fenerbahce to miss out on the group stage, was considered the "last straw" leading to this decision.

Before being fired, the “Special One” still had a year left on his contract with Fenerbahce, meaning he would receive a hefty compensation. According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, the amount was around £7.7 million. Thus, the total amount of money Mourinho has earned from being fired in his career has reached an astonishing £89 million.
Chelsea spent the most, more than 26 million pounds, including 18 million pounds when he was fired in 2007 and another 8.3 million pounds in 2015. Real Madrid also had to pay 17 million pounds when terminating Mourinho's contract, while Man Utd spent nearly 20 million pounds when they fired him in December 2018.
At Tottenham, the Portuguese tactician endured a turbulent 17 months and left with a compensation of around £15 million, despite still having two years left on his contract. Meanwhile, AS Roma only had to pay around £3 million as Mourinho was nearing the end of his contract.
The amount Mourinho received far exceeds many of his colleagues. Antonio Conte only received about 37 million pounds in compensation during his career, including 26 million pounds when he left Chelsea in 2018.
According to Spor Arena, the relationship between coach Mourinho and the Fenerbahce board has been tense since the summer transfer window. The Portuguese strategist has repeatedly complained about the club's way of working.

Before the match against Benfica, he was blunt in his criticism: "If the Champions League is so important, the club should have acted in the transfer window between the two matches against Feyenoord and Benfica. I don't think Fenerbahce have a real shopping list."
This statement further escalated the situation, forcing the board to decide to fire him. In addition, before the match, Vice President Hamdi Akin declared that Fenerbahce would easily defeat Benfica. When asked about this statement, Coach Mourinho made the situation more tense when he suddenly replied: "I don't even know who he is, no one has ever introduced him to me."
This is not the first time Mourinho has expressed doubts about his future. Last October, he said he would choose a team that does not participate in European competitions if he left Fenerbahce. So when his old statements were dug up this week, many Man Utd fans joked that the "Special One" could return to Old Trafford to replace coach Ruben Amorim.
In addition, Coach Mourinho is also on the list of candidates to replace Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest, after this coach had a conflict with the team's leadership.
