Yamal don't follow Neymar's footsteps

His actions before and during El Clasico have led to questions about whether Lamine Yamal is turning himself into the new Neymar of world football.

Yamal had an El Clasico to forget.

"Lamine Yamal has everything to become the best player in the world . However, instead of following the example of Barcelona legends like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, he is turning himself into Neymar," Marca commented after Real beat Barca 2-1 in the early morning of October 27.

Argumentative

Ahead of the match against Real Madrid, Yamal attracted attention with a series of daring actions. He posted a provocative Instagram story, showing off all the goals he had scored against Real Madrid on social media.

Not stopping there, Yamal also changed his hairstyle just to “shine” in the El Clasico match. In a chat with famous streamer Ibai Llanos, he even mocked Real Madrid: “I scored at the Bernabeu. Last time I went there, I won 4-0!”

However, Yamal’s performance in the latest El Clasico was a complete contrast to his previous confidence. He did not score, did not assist, did not have a single shot on target and lost possession 21 times. As a result, Barcelona lost, and Yamal became the focus of criticism for his lack of maturity.

Even after the match, Yamal had a "back and forth" with Dani Carvajal. Despite playing for the Spanish national team, Carvajal did not hesitate to signal Lamine to "continue speaking" right in the middle of the field, making the young talent angry.

Real Madrid players had reason to react to Yamal’s direct challenge to their arch-rivals. Showy gestures, similar to what Neymar has often done in the past, did not help Yamal play better in El Clasico.

Change before it's too late

Marca is right to compare Yamal with Barcelona legends like Messi, Xavi and Iniesta - who always let their talent on the pitch speak for themselves instead of their actions on the sidelines.

Yamal anh 1

Yamal has been involved in many controversies.

Messi, considered the greatest player in history, always lets his feet do the talking instead of boasting. Xavi and Iniesta, with their calm and intelligent playing style, shape a Barcelona that dominates the world with unity and steely spirit. They do not need ostentatious actions to prove their worth, because their achievements and performances on the field speak for themselves.

Meanwhile, Neymar – who Yamal seems to want to emulate – is a different story. Neymar was once one of the most skilled players in the world. However, his career has also been overshadowed by off-field controversies, from diving, to a lavish lifestyle, to disrespecting opponents.

Neymar is proof that talent alone is not enough to become a legend; maturity and discipline are key. At 18, Yamal still has time to learn and improve. But if he wants to reach the heights of his idols at Barça, he will need to curb his arrogance and focus on consistency and professionalism.

The recent El Clasico was a valuable lesson for Yamal: talent alone is not enough. To become a legend, he needs to combine natural skill with humility and a focus on football – something Messi, Xavi and Iniesta have done throughout their illustrious careers.
