According to Kien Giang Department of Tourism, currently international flights to Phu Quoc include Incheon (Korea) with 2 flights/day, Hong Kong (China) with 3 flights/week, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) with 3 flights/week, Bangkok (Thailand) with 4 flights/week.
In the near future, some Korean airlines will add flights to Phu Quoc. Korean Air has just announced that it will open a new route to Phu Quoc, with daily flights departing from Incheon Airport in Seoul in the afternoon; the return flight will leave Phu Quoc in the evening and arrive in Seoul early the next morning. According to the airline, November is considered the best time to travel to Phu Quoc when the dry season begins.
Two other Korean airlines, Jeju Air and Jin Air, also plan to open flights to Phu Quoc Island. Jeju Air will open a Seoul - Phu Quoc route with a frequency of 7 flights/week from the end of October. Jin Air plans to operate flights to Phu Quoc departing from Incheon Airport at the end of December.
According to news sites in Korea, the reason why airlines have recently shown interest in opening flights to Phu Quoc is due to the increasing demand for tourism to Vietnam. According to statistics in Korea, the number of passengers on flights between Vietnam and Korea in the third quarter of 2023 was more than double that of the same period last year.
A representative of a Korean airline said that the demand for flights from Korea to Vietnam last year was not high because it was the time when the Covid-19 pandemic had just begun to recover. However, in the third quarter of 2023, this route was increasingly crowded, helping the seat utilization rate (load factor) on this route reach an average of 80%. In addition, because there were many flights from Korea to Nha Trang and Da Nang , some airlines switched to Phu Quoc to exploit new destinations.
In addition, in the near future, Phu Quoc is expected to welcome charter flights from 2 cities of Kazakhstan from October 2023. Charter flights from Taiwan (China) to Phu Quoc are expected to be operated from December 2023.
