Live a happy and healthy life thanks to aerobics

In the early morning, just walking through the cultural houses from rural to urban areas in the province, we can easily see the image of people, mainly the elderly, practicing health exercises with soft but decisive punches. In the background of melodious music, each movement rotates regularly, everyone's face is calm and relaxed. Practicing health exercises has helped the elderly live happily and healthily.

More than 20 years ago, the physical education movement in Thai Nguyen started with a class. At that time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the General Department of Physical Education and Sports opened a short-term training class with a single lesson: "24-position Tai Chi". The class consisted of 50 elderly people - these special "students" never thought they would practice martial arts, and never imagined that one day physical education would become an indispensable part of their spiritual life.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khang, one of the first students of the class, shared: At first, I signed up for the class out of curiosity, but the more I studied, the more fascinated I became. The practice was not easy, because the movements had to be both martial arts-like and soft like dancing, and had to be in tune with the music. But the more I practiced, the lighter I felt, and my illness subsided. I have been attached to the practice ever since.

From just one class, up to now, Thai Nguyen has had hundreds of TDDS clubs attracting thousands of people to practice regularly every morning with many ages participating. The health care exercises are not too heavy, not too fast but gentle, flexible, helping blood circulation, regulating yin and yang. From the 56 warm-up movements, to the Duong sinh meridian exercises, Dich can kinh, then Moc Lan single-piece, Vo fan cong phu piece...; or the exercise with the ball to the background music of cha cha, rum ba... are all practiced systematically and effectively by the elderly.

Not only do they practice every day, Thai Nguyen Gymnastics Clubs also participate in parades and performances at major events.

“Health care is a method of practicing to nourish life, helping the spirit to always be refreshed and happy; at the same time, strengthening the body, immune system, reducing the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, bones and joints... For example, the exercise with the ball, built on the rhythm of cheerful music, has the effect of acupressure movements to treat diseases. Each ball hitting movement is like the practitioner punching his own back to treat himself. The ball hits the acupressure points with a large contact area, creating a reaction force to replace acupuncture" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Khang said.

If no one had introduced me, when I met Ms. Le Thuy, a member of the Quyet Thang Ward Sports Club, I would not have believed that she was over 80 years old, because of her witty speaking style and quick demeanor.

Ms. Le Thuy said: Since joining the health club, I feel healthier, eat better, sleep better, and am always optimistic and happy. Although I am old, I do not have bone and joint pain or suffer from some diseases that the elderly often encounter. After practicing health clubs, I can still help my children and grandchildren with housework every day without feeling tired. Joining the health club also helps the elderly get closer to each other, share joys and sorrows in life, visit and encourage each other when they are sick or in trouble...

The Quyet Thang Ward Gymnastics Club has been operating regularly for nearly 20 years now, with about 50 members, the oldest being over 80 years old, the youngest in their sixties. They all share a common passion: Live healthy to live happily, live happily to live usefully.

The annual health exercise competition is a useful playground for the elderly to have the opportunity to exchange and ask questions.

Practicing TDDS does not discriminate against age, level, or circumstances. Anyone can participate, anyone can become healthier and enjoy life more. Many people, after persistently practicing, have escaped the illness that had haunted them for many years. For example, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuoi, Quan Thi Hoa... in Song Cong ward, who used to have severe sciatica and had difficulty walking, can now walk normally and help their children and grandchildren with many housework tasks.

Not only do they practice every day, Thai Nguyen Gymnastics Clubs also participate in parades and performances at major events. On some occasions, up to 300 - 500 seniors perform in the stadium, performing exercises like a beautiful, powerful, and inspiring "body symphony".

If you have the opportunity to go to the Cultural House of Residential Group 11, Quyet Thang Ward or Vo Nguyen Giap Square or anywhere where there is a Gymnastics Club in the province in the early morning, let's take some time to follow the gentle steps of the elders, and you will understand why the elderly, even though they are old, are still not... old. The Gymnastics training movement in Thai Nguyen not only helps the elderly have good health but also motivates the elderly to set an example for their children and grandchildren to live happily, live usefully and have an optimistic and life-loving spirit.
