Binh Duong – one of the pioneering smart cities in Vietnam – is gradually promoting digital transformation in education with the concerted efforts of its dedicated teaching staff.
Embracing technological trends, teachers here are constantly learning and applying advanced online platforms like Khan Academy to teach and support students. From innovative teaching methods to closely monitoring learning outcomes, teachers in Binh Duong have been creating conditions for students to maximize their potential, while contributing to building a modern education system that aligns with the smart city development orientation.
The teaching staff proactively applies technology in teaching and learning.
As the 2024-2025 school year begins, the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong province is promoting the application of the Khan Academy platform through the Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV) open school model in learning management at schools throughout the province. Immediately, teachers in Binh Duong quickly adopted it in their teaching. Currently, many schools in the province have become "shining examples" in innovating teaching and learning methods, opening opportunities for students and teachers to explore new ways of learning. Notably, the proactiveness and enthusiasm of the teachers are key factors in the initial success of this model.
At Hung Vuong Specialized High School (Thu Dau Mot City), Ms. Phuong Trang, a math teacher, shared that applying the KAV Open School model has provided her with many tools to support teaching and comprehensively assess students. Each week, she assigns homework on Khan Academy, utilizing the platform's proficiency scoring system to encourage students to complete assignments and achieve high scores. “The lessons on Khan Academy are not only engaging but also aligned with the classroom curriculum, making it easier for students to learn. The proficiency scoring system also motivates students to learn more as they see their progress through each lesson.”
Tran Quoc Tuan Primary School (Ben Cat City) is one of the leading schools in applying information technology to teaching. The school's management board has focused on and closely monitored the use of Khan Academy to ensure its effectiveness and practicality. In particular, teachers at the school proactively seek out initiatives to optimize student learning effectiveness. Ms. Tran Thi Kim Them, the IT teacher, stated that teachers recognize that supporting students in achieving mastery on this platform yields the best learning outcomes. Therefore, the school actively guides and encourages students to proactively study and review various question types and exercises multiple times to achieve mastery and eliminate knowledge gaps. Sharing the same viewpoint as Ms. Thêm, Ms. Trần Thị Hằng, homeroom teacher of class 5/5 at Trần Quốc Tuấn Primary School, also shared that the school has innovated teaching and learning methods by combining direct exercises on the Khan Academy platform during class time. This helps students become familiar with the interface and usage so that they can easily access the platform at home and strive to achieve high scores. At the same time, to encourage and motivate students, she rewards high-scoring students with learning materials (pens, notebooks, books), turning the learning process into an exciting journey. As a result, the students gradually develop self-discipline and a greater love for learning.

At Luong The Vinh Primary School (Ben Cat City), Mr. Ngo Huu Nghiep also stated that the school's management board has actively directed the implementation of KAV for all students. Determined to provide an optimal learning experience, each student has a KAV account created by their teacher to practice their knowledge weekly. Mr. Nghiep emphasized: “The school regularly monitors the learning results and assignment progress of each class. The management board also directly checks the learning activities of each class to ensure that students are using Khan Academy effectively. In addition, we also introduce the platform to parents so that they can feel secure and encourage their children to participate.”
The first "sweet fruits" of teachers' efforts are fostering a spirit of self-directed learning in each student.
The proactive approach to a blended learning model combining online learning and assessment through the Khan Academy platform has brought about many positive changes for both teachers and students in Binh Duong. Teachers agree that the platform has enabled students to review knowledge anytime, anywhere, without being limited by the classroom environment. This is especially important when many students need to review difficult concepts or want to delve deeper into the lessons.
Teachers say that thanks to Khan Academy, students have an additional visual learning tool that helps them understand lessons more deeply. The diverse system of lectures and exercises helps students practice at various levels, from basic to advanced. "Even weaker students can start with simple exercises, while stronger students can explore more advanced knowledge," Ms. Hang shared. Each week, teachers track the completion rate of assignments on the platform and notice that students' enthusiasm is increasing. She added: "Initially, some parents were concerned about online learning because they couldn't control their children's study time. However, after seeing their children improve and become more self-disciplined, parents gradually felt reassured and encouraged their children to study."

The support from the school administration, the enthusiasm of the teaching staff, and the encouragement of parents have created a great motivation for students to learn. For many students, learning on Khan Academy is not only a new experience but also an opportunity to cultivate perseverance and initiative. Many students have made significant progress with each lesson and each chapter. After achieving "small successes" such as confidently completing assignments and earning mastery, they become more confident in raising their hands to speak during class. Perhaps for teachers, the "sweet reward" is seeing students improve daily, become more enthusiastic in class, and always strive to become better versions of themselves.
The KAV Open School model has brought a breath of fresh air to education in Binh Duong, creating opportunities for teachers to continue exploring and developing their ability to apply technology to teaching. With strong support from the school and the cooperation of parents, this model promises to bring many successes in the future, helping students access knowledge in a more proactive and comprehensive way.
