A new impetus from quantum research and artificial intelligence.

FPT Group's recent announcement of a $100 million investment to establish an Institute for Quantum Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity Research is not only a business decision but also a significant milestone in Vietnam's scientific and technological development.

In a context where technology is becoming a measure of national competitiveness, such steps demonstrate that foundational research has begun to be placed at the center of long-term development strategies.

For a long time, Vietnam has often been mentioned in terms of its application of technology, software outsourcing, and digital transformation in management and production. These areas have brought rapid growth, but also reveal limitations due to their dependence on external core technologies. Quantum research and artificial intelligence (AI) – fields requiring significant investment, long-term time, and highly skilled human resources – therefore become a "difficult challenge" that not many businesses are willing to tackle.

Therefore, the fact that a domestic technology corporation is proactively investing systematically in Quantum AI research has significance beyond the scope of a single project. It reflects a shift in mindset: from "following behind, doing it quickly" to "keeping pace, even leading" in some key areas. Quantum computing opens up superior computing capabilities, solving problems that classical computers would have taken thousands of years to solve; while AI is reshaping how humans create knowledge, make decisions, and organize society.

Notably,FPT focuses not only on technology but also on people and the research ecosystem. Inviting reputable scientists to take on leadership roles in science, setting goals for training PhDs and senior experts, and expanding international cooperation demonstrate a foundational approach.

From a broader perspective, quantum research and AI not only serve economic growth but are also closely linked to the concept of technological sovereignty . As data, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and critical national systems increasingly depend on high technology, mastering core technologies means minimizing risks and enhancing self-reliance. This is a matter not only for businesses but for the entire economy.

Of course, high-tech research is a long and challenging road. The results cannot be measured in a few years, and some research directions may not even yield immediate commercial products. But if you don't start, you'll never accumulate capital. Today's investments are the foundation for tomorrow's competitiveness.

From FPT's achievements, a positive sign emerges: Vietnamese businesses have begun boldly venturing into the "deeper regions" of science and technology . With quantum research and artificial intelligence considered strategic pillars, Vietnam is also nurturing a new impetus – an impetus stemming from knowledge, from its people, and from the aspiration to master its own technological future.
