Why is China still winning the race to attract Vietnamese tourists?

(Dan Tri) - Hunan Province is famous for destinations that are popular with Vietnamese tourists such as Zhangjiajie and Phoenix Ancient Town. In the near future, there will be a direct flight to Hanoi, thereby promoting tourism between the two sides.

For many years, Hunan province in central China has become a destination chosen by many Vietnamese tourists because it possesses a series of famous scenic spots such as Zhangjiajie and Phoenix Ancient Town.

This is shown by the figures in 2024, Vietnam is the 4th source market in terms of international visitors entering this locality with more than 159,000 arrivals.

Each province in China has its own unique culture and Hunan is no exception with its majestic natural landscape, ancient features and increasingly perfect tourism service system. This is also one of the reasons why China has been winning the race for foreign tours to attract Vietnamese tourists in recent years.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that tourism cooperation between Vietnam and China has continued to achieve many important steps forward in recent times, with proactive participation from central to local levels, from government to businesses.

Specifically, in the first 3 months of the year, Vietnam welcomed nearly 1.2 million Chinese visitors, an increase of 78.3% over the same period in 2024. In the whole year of 2024, the number of Chinese visitors reached over 3.7 million, an increase of more than 114% compared to 2023, showing the great potential of the market.

On the other hand, Vietnam is also one of the important tourist markets of many Chinese localities, including Hunan province.

"The Vietnam National Tourism Administration is ready to accompany Hunan province in particular and Chinese localities in general in developing attractive inter-route tourism products; organizing survey teams, promoting two-way tourism; promoting the expansion of flight routes, improving visa procedures and enhancing connections between travel businesses of the two countries," Mr. Khanh affirmed.

Sharing the same opinion, Mr. Tuong Dich Phi, Vice Chairman of the People's Government of Hunan Province, said that Vietnam - China tourism is facing great prospects.

In order to accelerate and enhance cultural and tourism cooperation between the two sides, Mr. Phi proposed to build a cultural and tourism platform mechanism between Hunan (China) and Vietnam; simplify visa procedures, unify customs procedures, consolidate mechanisms and build infrastructure for tourism platforms, promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides, and develop to a new height.

In addition, the two sides also need to build an industry ecosystem, build unique cross-border tourism routes; build a new ecosystem for consumption and tourism culture of China, Vietnam and ASEAN to develop sustainably and with quality.

On this occasion, on the afternoon of April 24, a direct flight between Hanoi and Hunan will take off, facilitating two-way travel.

Ms. Trinh Thieu Hong, chief representative of China Southern Airlines in Hanoi, said that based on the great potential between Vietnam and China, this airline has restored the Hunan - Hanoi route with a frequency of 3 flights/week.

This summer, the airline plans to operate 97 weekly flights between Vietnam and China, up 15% year-on-year.

"In the southern region of China, many people want to come to Vietnam to visit places like Hanoi, Ha Long, Ninh Binh," Ms. Hong shared.
