In his farewell message posted on X , Mr. Trudeau expressed his deep gratitude to the Canadian people for their trust and support during nearly 10 years of leading the country.
For his part, speaking before the inauguration, Mr. Carney said he would immediately get to work. Mr. Carney just won a resounding victory in the Liberal Party leadership election last weekend.
Although a newcomer to Canadian politics, Mr. Carney has served as governor of the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada.
Valuable experience in dealing with major financial crises is one of the important skills that Mr. Carney will need to promote in the context of Canada facing the tariff policy of US President Donald Trump and even expressing the desire to make the neighboring country the 51st state of the United States.
In his new position, Mr. Mark Carney will face many challenges, including whether to hold an early federal election or not, although the official election has been set for October 20.
Current predictions suggest that whoever takes the lead, the Liberals will face stiff competition from the opposition Conservatives.
Carney’s succession from Trudeau marks a major turning point in Canadian politics. Carney has pledged to ensure a smooth and swift transition of power. His cabinet members were sworn in on March 14.
