Strengthening measures to prevent and control epidemics after floods in Nghe An

Nghe An Department of Health has just issued an official dispatch on implementing measures to prevent and control epidemics, environmental sanitation, food safety and ensure medical examination and treatment after floods and inundation to the Provincial Center for Disease Control, Medical Centers and medical examination and treatment facilities, both public and private, in the province.

Nghe An Department of Health requires units to proactively review and identify key areas at high risk of disease outbreaks after floods and inundation; prepare response plans when situations arise. Strengthen mobile teams for disease prevention and control to support lower levels in monitoring, early detection, and timely handling of infectious diseases that are at risk of increasing during and after floods.

Immediately arrange human resources, ensure adequate medicines, chemicals, equipment and necessary supplies to implement disease prevention and control measures in affected localities.

Organize environmental sanitation, collect and bury animal carcasses according to instructions, use lime powder and disinfectants to prevent the risk of disease outbreaks. Urgently organize spraying of insecticides in high-risk areas.

Strengthen surveillance in affected areas, especially at concentrated evacuation points and isolated areas, to promptly detect and promptly and thoroughly handle outbreaks of diseases such as: acute diarrhea, pink eye, acute respiratory infections, skin diseases, influenza, dengue fever, paying special attention to diseases transmitted through the digestive tract such as cholera, dysentery, typhoid, etc.

The Provincial Center for Disease Control is the standing unit, receiving and synthesizing the epidemic situation and environmental sanitation from localities; ready to support techniques, medicines, chemicals, and supplies for localities when necessary, especially in the event of a widespread epidemic.

Nghe An Department of Health also requested that public and non-public medical examination and treatment facilities urgently review and immediately repair the damage after the flood, ensuring that medical examination and treatment activities are not interrupted. Strictly implement the plan to organize emergency care and timely treatment of patients.
